Yep. If Linux cannot provide the kind of tech support Apple and Microsoft can, then it will never overtake them. As long as it remains free, there's no way it can provide that kind of tech support.

There are various distros of Linux that have paid support available. (e.g. Red Hat, Ubuntu...etc)

That said, paid support isn't exactly consumer-minded.

You Welcome to do so, But i sure as heck not. I never had issues with windows 8 metruo UI, and even if I did. I would just use Start8x/Classicshell if i miss the look of windows 7.

Yes, I use Ubuntu Studio but there are not necessarily anything that catch my attention whilst producing. The problem here is that I have stuff like Maschine from Native Instruments which only works on Windows and OSX, but right now, it is my main production platform. Without it, no sounds besides the onboard synths in Linux and some MIDI stuff, all of which is easily done through Windows. The good thing about Ubuntu Studio is that it included a low latency version, so when you hit a key, it plays almost instantly. With Windows, you can do that, but certainly not for free.

On Topic - Sad occurrence since I think that AMD should always be able to be booted into Linux, but I think that saying that AMD will not be able to any more after this is very short-sighted.

AMD still is strongly pushing open-source OpenGL and HSA... which will no doubt be easily incorporated by other Linux devs. It probably just means that AMD chipset drivers would take longer to get released on Linux, but let's face it, they haven't changed much since 7xx.

Regardless, the Linux marketshare is significantly less than AMD's current desktop marketshare, and it would be suicide for AMD to drop Windows support and go Linux only. Dropping Windows support will also make dual boot not viable on AMD.
oh i know....trust me i agree it woudl be a stupid move ..but so is dropping linux support... and mind you i was just pointing out that that info was for all markets (mobile phones atc) and the linux share is higher than we can calculate (as you said how the heck do you track dual boot machines?)
