But, I have to be honest. As much reason as I have to dislike Apple (and I do indeed dislike them), the blame for this really shouldn't be put on them. It is definitely the patent system's fault in this broken country that is sliding further downhill everyday.
If I walk up to an ATM and try to take out $500,000 with my debit card for the hell of it and it actually gives it to me, it's the bank's fault for having a broken system, not mine, who should have been told NO in the first place.

They have the most cash holdings of any technological company and yet they are "pathetic"? Get real, the only thing that's pathetic is all the butthurt in this thread.

It's pathetic that people like yourself support this type of thing...I mean really. Like I said, I guess I just don't understand people at all. I swear, they could make Apple products out of ground baby bones, and you "people" would still be all over it like white on rice. And honestly, your post is one of the most "butthurt" containing posts in here...so yeah, there's that. You skip over any relevant points made (that's how OCN works now, I know) and attack any fallacies you can find that go against your beliefs.

we dont need a nanny to tell us what we can or cant do, we are grown ups there fore we should have the decency and common sense.

honestly i dont get you people, a moment you are complaining about a nanny gov tell us what we cant view and there you are complaining about breaking the system for not being told to

ether way i blame the sheeple for letting it happen rather then the greedy and selfish organizations/individuals

You would be expected to return the money immediately or face legal action. That is stealing regardless if it was bank error or not.

Ok, bad example I suppose. Just trying to point out I blame both, basically. Support neither, blame both. But yeah sorry for the bad example.

Yes, PATHETIC. I said future competition, as in the market is growing and if they can't deal with that new competition with their product-offering alone and need petty attempts at an advantage, such as patenting an industry-standard, then yes, it's pathetic.

As long as people purchase Apple products and pay a silly premium for the brand, they will have the money to pursue these silly patents and lawsuits.

Its this. I do not own an apple product, or use apple software(itunes). I try so hard to boycott Apple that I will not even assist my friends and family with trouble shooting or set up of any apple products.

Normally I am not this hardcore on on hating a product or company. Like with car's. I can't stand Chevy(and affiliated MFG's) but have no problem working on them and own a Saturn. So for me to outright refuse to have anything to do with Apple is pretty big thing. In the grand picture my boycott mean's nothing and they(Apple) will never even notice but it make's me feel better. Not a single cent of mine go's to support crap like this.

Its a shame too. If Apple wasn't hell bent on destroying the tech market they would be a great company to have around. Remove their un-needed courtroom drama and they would keep the other's(samsung, motorola, asus, ect) on their toe's..

My 2 cents.

Dear Supervising Officer:

As a member of a technology enthusiast group, I am deeply disturbed by the level of favor that is given by your office towards large and notoriously monopolistic corporations in the field of computing. Although it has been a growing problem, this trend is exemplified heavily in your recent approval of patent number US00D504889S.

This trend has been proven by experts in the fields of economics and technology to be systemically and endemically detrimental to the innovative progress which we, as members of a capitalist nation, are so desperately trying to make, in both terms of opportunity for small business, and for the preservation of the ideals of freedom and fair trade that we possess so deeply within the core of our patriotic beliefs.

It is clear that it has become necessary for a major reform of your policies, one that is much more focused on protecting the rights of the originators of an idea in order for them to prosper for the innovation which they bring to society and removes most if not all of the monopolistic bias that has become a burden to the national community, legal system and the development of future economic prosperity which we are all collectively in need of.

Approving such a broad patent like this brings into question the integrity of your establishment. There are many proven prior works that this particular patent obviously covers, the fact that you approved this patent is in of itself proof that your process is inherently flawed and needs review.

I appreciate your time.

And for the record: I don't hate Apple. But this patent is kinda broad and makes no sense really.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

I rarely say something like this, but, you're a mindless fanboy. Bear in mind I've owned two iPads, 4 iPhones, 6 iPods, an iMac....and I still think you're ridiculous.

"Unique"? Apple didn't invent rectangular handheld tablets, why should they receive a patent for it? I won't deny that Apple has innovated in some areas, but the rectangular shape with rounded corners isn't one of them.

Welcome to my blocked users list....you're the only one from OCN on it, and that's saying something considering the drivel some members here regularly spew. Additionally, the meter in my signature, has just dropped a percentage point thanks to you.

Question. Did you actually go through, read and comprehend what precisely the patent is for? It has already been quoted here two pages ago, let me place it here for your reference purposes...
Quote:
I think most people don't understand what it means that this is a design patent - it's not the same thing as a "regular" patent (a utility patent). Design patents allow a company to get an exclusive right to the form of a functional object so that a 3rd party can't make a different device with identical appearance (well, not legally at least). Almost every company that puts the time into making a distinctive shape for their devices gets one: Microsoft has one for the Xbox, George Lucas got one for Yoda etc.

Design patents are extremely narrow - you have to do your level best to copy them exactly in order to be found in infringement. Plus, they specifically cannot cover functionality - that has to be covered by a utility patent, if it's going to be protected. This design patent only protects a "portable display device" (that's the wording in the Patent itself), and only one with those specific design elements that are shown in the Patent Figures.

I'd be shocked if Apple hadn't applied for design patents for all of its devices. This really isn't an issue

This is NOT patenting a broad, rectangular shape, whereupon your TV and gameboy and every other electronic device would be infringing upon this patent.

I know it's not cool to think critically on these forums, especially when it comes to the USPTO and Apple. But you really should understand what you're talking about first.

What is a design patent
