I have a D3100 and looking for a Tripod. The thing is that i have no idea what all the different model do. My budget is not too high as this will be for fun only. It would be great if i can buy it in Canada.

How much is not too high? Generally with tripods, the rule is you can two of the three: cheap, lightweight, and sturdy. Anything that can handle any sort of weight for less than about $150 is gonna weigh a ton.

Depends if you got muscles to lug around a bigger and sturdier tripod as well.

However like Lab said a budget would be good. But anything under $150 can handle weight just fine, being realistic with what you'll be putting on it is the key, since it's a D3100 I doubt you'll be putting anything close to 11lbs on it in the near future as you said its for fun only. Simple Dolica will do the trick for this fun tongue.gif

Should fit the bill, but more info would be good.

Would go for what I linked and use the spare change from the $100 to get a small used/new fluid head for video use.

That tripod is garbage, I have it and its set to light stand duty.

Quite a bit more.....

I picked up a sirui t005 for travel and it seems sturdy enough (for my gx1 + nodal slide). I'll tell you how it hold up to my a900.

http://www.calumetphoto.com/eng/product/calumet_7100_tripod_with_three_way_quick_release_head/ck7114

Calumet tripods are the ultimate hold-as-much-camera-as-you-own bang for the buck. They're weighty for their respective class, but they will take a ton of abuse and work just fine. While I could very well afford a Gitzo, RRS or the like, I stick with my Calumet because I can treat it like I dont give a damn and it never fails.
