Got my Gentle Typhoons, still high temps. Can you tell me your temperature with your H70?

I have an i7 2600k not overclocked, I am wanting to overclock but want a nice temperature before I start, these seem high to me. I am sitting at idle right now at 35 celcius. I just installed Gentle Typhoon 1850 in a push/pull config and the temperatures are no lower than they were before, after about 5 minutes of Prime95 I am running at 58 celcius and with my stock H70 fans it was around 60, I would think there should be a better improvement than that. What is a good idle temp/load temp for a stock 2600k with those fans with an H70? Also, I am using Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, I used the pea sized method and removed the thermal paste that was on the h70.

What is the room temperature of the room you're in?

Idle temp is dependent on the room you're in. I am not sure about the temps, as I don't have a sandy bridge CPU. You might want to fill in your PC specs using this link: http://www.overclock.net/lists/component/manage/type/RIG

I have a h50 w/ 2 AP-15s and with the CPU underclocked at idle it's around 36-37. Jumps up to low 40s if i'm running VMs and things in the background.

Under load i've seen up to 85C with my OC. You're fine, especially with the H70 with it's relatively thin radiator compared to the H80. My 2700k also is a pretty poor OCer so i'm at around 1.3V with 4.5GHz.

A couple of points worth considering

AS5 takes a while to kick in... its got a long cure time before it hits its straps.

You may wish to consider the use of shrouds in your rad configeration.

A simple shroud is a gutted 120m fan (just the frame). You place them bewteen the rad and the fan.

Ideally it should look like this... Fan>>shroud>>rad>>shroud>> fan (intake example)

Also, are you exhausting or intaking with you fans?

Typically, exhausting will give you higher temps while intaking gets you cooler air passing through your rad.

Ambient temps also play a role here... the hotter your room, the higher the temps.

Im assuming your fans and pump are at full speed...

The stock fans on the H70 spin at 2000rpm. The AP-15 spins at 1800rpm. The fact that you saw a 2c drop in temps with slower fans is impressive as is.

Your temps do seem a bit on the high side for stock clocks though. Although some chips have a higher stock voltage than others so even that might not be out of line.

The fans right now are setup as exhaust, I thought that would be best, should I switch them around? I have a friend that has an H80 on his 2600k and I believe he is OCed to about 4.5-4.8 and he said on Prime he never goes above 50-53. He said I should consider an h80 because there is about a 10 degree difference between the two, is that true?

The fans are running at a lower rpm, but the static pressure is much higher.

The H80 is almost as good as an H100, so that extra thickness it provides is preferable.

As an intake on the back of the PC you will see a few degree difference, i've played around with that too. Whether that will affect your internal case air flow might be something to consider however.

I kind of doubt that at load he's not going over 55C though...how long has he run prime95 when testing? Because the really strenuous stuff doesnt come in until like half an hour in. My friend that owned my CPU and mobo and paired it with a H100 never exceeded 65C. I would think a H80 would have a harder time doing the same.

Consider that your GPU may be dumping some amount of hot air into your case... even though the they are designed not to...

Suggest you flip your fans around to intake and see if that helps. All setups are different and some initial experimentation is required for optimum performance.
