CPU/NB and HT LINK question

Thread Starter
Hello, I got a AMD Phenom II X4 965 C3 at 3.8 Ghz overclocked with only multiplier and Vcore to 1.368v

I heard increasing your NB will make your pc or increase some performance. Well I increase my CPU/NB frequency from 2000mhz (stock) to 2400Mhz with 1.2v and left the HT Link at auto (2000mhz)

So my question is how safe is it to increase the CPU/NB to 2400mhz and where is the danger zone and am I using the right volts? 1.2v? I dont really know the perfect voltages kinda new at overclocking but im getting there and also do NB and HT link have to match? can I just leave it at 2000, cuz I read somewhere that HT link at 2000 was just fine.

I also got ram 1333mhz so will increasing the CPU/NB interfere with ram and other stuff? like the bus speed of 200 does.

Peace

The only danger to the CPU-NB is voltage and heat. It has the same 1.5v safe limit as the CPU core portion of the die, but you won't see much scaling past 1.35v anyways. Try to get it around 2600-2800 mhz. The only other issue with overclocking the CPU-NB is that it can get unstable just like the CPU and ram so no real worries there.

what he said up there and yes keep ht link as close to 2000 as possible.

Alright thanks guys got one more question =D, well I know that if you have a 1600mhz ram you should have a (800*3) = 2400 Mhz CPU/NB or you are bottlenecking ur ram right?, but I got a 1333mhz ram can I still have 2400mhz on CPU/NB? will it make any issues? I can overclock my ram to 1600mhz but I dont think phenom ii 965's support higher then 1333, at 1600mhz the controller gets kinda fuzzy and can make bluescreen and stuff so does CPU/NB has to match with the ram as well?

i ran my 800mhz ddr2 ram and my cpu-nb was 2717 and i was getting improvements over having 2400....

I increased my CPU/NB to 2600mhz on 1.25v and man it feels alot snappier got also 7.7 memory WEI from 7.5 lol, I dont know really what I gained performance wise but everything is a bit faster and snappier so I will be on 3.8ghz/2600mhz for now, gonna get 2 top fans and use them as exhaust to keep the system more cool.

The higher ya go the more ya gain too. No point where you see diminishing returns. You just gotta make sure youre stable.
