for 248 dollars with shipping you get the Gigabyte HD 7870 OC (1.1 Ghz) . one of the best HD 7870 cards. the windforce 3x cooler keeps the temps below 60c even at 1.2+ Ghz speeds. just make sure you can fit this card. its huge at 11.02 inches (280 mm). very positive user reviews.
http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4154#sp
HD 7870 is 8 - 10% faster than HD 7850 at the same clocks. HD 7870 competes with GTX 660 Ti and can keep up with GTX 660 Ti OC when overclocked to 1.25+ Ghz speeds.

Also what CPU do you have. your sig rig says Athlon X2 5000+. thats not enough. a Phenom II X4 overclocked to 4 Ghz is the minimum you need to drive this card. If you can afford a core i5 at 3 Ghz get it. You need a good PSU too with atleast 34A - 36A on the +12v rail.

honestly, it depends on which games you are playing, whether you are planing on overclocking your gpu or not also what resolution you are gaming on etc, generally speaking for 1080p gaming with a budget of $250 I would get Evga Gtx 660 Superclocked or maybe even wait for Msi Gtx 660 HAWK. Both factory overclocked and very capable cards, you also gain Physx support which is a small plus if you want to play games like borderlands 2, batman arkham city etc...
evga card is available today for $230 and msi is about to come out for $250

If its a new rig what are you going to use it mainly for. if its gaming then a HD 7950 with core i5 3450 is the best bet for 1080p gaming. you really don't need an overclocked core i5 for a single HD 7950. get the sapphire HD 7950. HD 7950 (1.15 Ghz) is 25 - 30% faster than HD 7870 (1.25 Ghz) . the Sapphire card is selling for 280 bucks after mail in rebate.

MSI 7870 Hawk is the best 7870 out there, and a stock 7870 with the new 12.11 drivers consistently beats the GTX 660 at 1080p and higher.
GTX 660 doesn't seem to scale too well with overclocking at the moment, due to the TDP limit and Power+ limit in AB Nvidia put on this particular card. Most reviewers have pushed the 7870 Hawk to 1300mhz on the core clock with relative ease, theoretically increasing it's lead over any non-ti gtx 660 if both were overclocked to the max.

It's too bad you didn't post this yesterday, the 7870 Hawk was on sale for $245 for the past couple of days on Amazon and Newegg, now it's back up to $260.
If you were to get a 7850 though, I would choose the PowerColor PCS+ 7850, most have been able to clock 1250mhz on the core since Powercolor cherry picks their PCS+ line. However, if you were to spend $215 on the PCS+ 7850, you might as well spend $230 on a 7870 as you'd still be under the $250 mark.
Edit: PCS+ 7850 is actually $195 on newegg right now

I got a 7950 for 241.99+tax after a MIR if that counts. The prices should be around there if you can get a hold of one it's worth the premium I think still haven't tried it. Got delayed another week... sighs why I hate shipping it to my parents my gf keeps me here so I can't go get it...

Got my 7950 for $235 Open Box off newegg. I still see them up from time to time. Also there is this 7950 for $280 after $20 rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202006, comes with 3 games that perhaps you could sell to make up the difference
