I think SC2 is balanced in such a way that getting unexpectedly mass 'anythinged' will get you killed.
The balance is in knowing what your opponent does and react accordingly.

Although when SC2 came out, going early voidrape was a high chance of victory for Protoss (especially against zerg). They fixed that at one point (dunno when, at least a year ago).

I have a fear of the new Widow mine however.

It's not a MOBA vs RTS comparison (cause that would be silly and the web would never do such a thing.)
It's a comparison of competitive, professional gaming scenes. And sources argue the MOBA scene is getting bigger and bigger, slowly draining SC2.
Although the genres are different, the playerbase overlaps.
I personally think is that both will remain. But since Starcraft isn't the only pro e-sport anymore it slims down a bit. I only recently started playing SC2 multiplayer and I'm having a blast. (certainly nice not being shouted at every game by jerks like in LOL.)
Oh yes, the reason why anyone would pay for a single player campaign is beyond me. Certainly seeing of how poor and unfinished the Wings of Liberty campaign was. /sarcasm.

It is poor and unfinshed if you look at it from a story perspective, also imo the missions are not that great either, sure there are few cool ones but most of them are repetitive. However I do not play RTS games for the campaign.

I must confess that I was looking at the campaign from a gamedesign point of view. There isn't anything wrong with Blizzard's story-writing, it just feels misplaced-epic at times. It didn't come over to me as any more repetitive as any other single-player campaign I ever played. In fact, I was amazed how diverse it was (for an RTS game.)

If I had to guess, they're not going to divide the player base into two. So SC2 Multiplayer gets an update (the 6 new units), and that counts for all SC2 players, not just HotS customers.
Or go for free-to-play all together: http://kotaku.com/5945692/free+to+play-considered-for-multiplayer-starcraft-says-designer

I do play RTS's mostly for their campaign and I felt it was the least repetitive campaign I had ever played. I was actually very happy with the campaign though I don't like how long its been in between the xpacs. I expected the 2nd one to already be hitting by now, not the first one still months off.

I know, when did we go back into the 90's? I'll only pay that sort of money for 4 new maps /sarcasm.

Ive just read up on the campaign and it sounds fantastic, a lot different from WoL, expected to take 20 hours to complete and as its considered an expansion rather than a sequel, hopefully it'll be less than £30.

They're working on game unit balances and UI. Not releasing it until it is ready.

in the last tournament at MLG the stream was populated with hundreds and hundreds of viewer, if sc2 died to u thats ok, but dont say it is already dead.

SC2 has lost a huge amount of players and won;t be gaining much or any new players at all with the HOTS release.....they screwed up SC2 the game is not balanced and boring as hell like I said haha. Games like LoL and DOTA 2 are balanced because most of everything is OP and the heros balance themselves out plus they are much more exciting to play and watch and actually require teamwork.

I was master league in SC2 for a long time and actually have beaten GM players on ladder but Blizzard broke the game with its balance patches and only having two guys balance a game is retarded I'm sorry but its true.

SC2 might not be dead but its continuing to lose players each and every day vs gaining them......lot's of pros have dropped out of the scene and the pro scene is now stagnant as it rewards brain dead mechanical gameplay vs strategy which games such as LoL and DOTA strive on. I have the BETA for HOTS but I haven't even played the BETA and don;t plan on playing it either.

With the small number of units in SC2, the imbalances in it, the low player base, it's rewarding of mechanics vs strategy, etc, I'd hardly call SC2 one of the best RTS games of all time.......WC3 was better in each and every way.

SC2 was at it's best when it rewarded creative strategic game play which was within the first 1-2 years after it's release now its all about having carpel tunnel and seeing who's a faster player.

Just because a game itself is losing players and not gaining as much, viewership for SC2 is increasing. People don't have the time to commit towards learning to be good at SC2. It's a viewing eSports title.

People watch SC2 and don't play the game simply for the fact it is entertaining to watch. People watch football, basketball, soccer and don't play these sports.
Pros have dropped out because they felt that they aren't on the 'level curve' of being competitive which is understandable. People are focusing more on other games or back to their studies.

WC3 was not better. WC3 is a prime example of a game that is 'DEAD' not SC2. Stagnant? Nope, not even close. Brood War pros are in SC2 and viewership/hype is increasing.
