[Solved] Yet Another Spilled On Keyboard - Broke After Cleaning

So, like all the cool people I spilled coffee on my keyboard.

I went through one of ripster's cleaning guides and after removing the case and most of the keycaps, rinsed the keys that started sticking out with water. The only ones that really got coffee in them were the arrow keys and the near by Ctrl key.

So this is where things get interesting. After waiting for what felt like years to dry, put most of it back together to try it out. Plugged it in and it didn't work and the controller board got hot! Tore things back apart looking for burnt parts. Didn't find anything amiss, but did notice the way I put it back in...

Guessing that is how I put it back together the first time too. Plugged it back in and it works... Kinda. None of the keys in the qwerty row work except T, Y, and the bracket and slash keys at the end.
Code:
t y [ ] \

Looking for ideas, else I was thinking I would desolder all the keyswitches and look for burnt diodes on the main board. Because the keys I rinsed with water still work, I'm guessing it was the missplaced controller board that did things in.

I.. don't take this the wrong way, but.. I'm honestly surprised you stopped and took the time to take a picture of the coffee spilled all over the place rather than trying to get it out of the keyboard as fast as you can.. applaud.gif

Really?

I was going to ask to use the picture in my cleaning guide.

May I?

But anyhoo pull the controller daughter board and wipe the pins with DeOxit or alcohol.

Naw, I thought the same thing when looking at the picture afterward. biggrin.gif

"Huh, it looks like I left the keyboard plugged in" tongue.gif

It's unplugged, cable just looks like it's still plugged in from that angle. Picture was mostly for those I was chatting with. I thought they might want to know why I just sort of stopped responding for a bit.

Edit for rip ninja:

Put my name somewhere and certainly! thumb.gif

I guess I could try cleaning it more. I swear I smelled something burning and there was definitely heat on that thing, I was hoping for a bit of direction of what might have burned up. Daughter board didn't get any coffee on it as far as I could tell, I just put it back in wrong.

Then suddenly it started working! rolleyes.gif

Guess I just didn't wait long enough for the water to dry. Thanks anyway for replying!
