HD 7950 getting low fps in WoW - Page 3

You are clearly using addons, based on those screnshots - so I have to ask if you tried turning on LUA error reporting, just in case. Other than that, getting down to 40-55 fps in cities is nothing uncommon - even my ASUS GTX 670 TOP does this - with an i7 3770.

=======================================================
(FPS capped @ 60, 1920X1080 ULTRA i.e. ALL SETTINGS AT MAX AVAILABLE SETTING)
60 FPS in 5 man heroics
30-50 FPS in Pandaria
54 FPS in the Shrine of Seven Stars (very crowded)
35-60 FPS in 25 man raids (running stock @ 3.0 GHz)
I really can't see why people OC their CPUS & GPUs to play WoW. Really, I don't. WoW is an ancient game that can run at ULTRA even on OC'd Core Duos. My Northwood Pentium 4 laptop can still run MoP.
I know that everyone and their little sister suggests that you should spend like $1k to get the latest INTEL CPU and overclock it to 5 GHZ to get good FPS at WoW, however, in my experience the GPU matters as much or more. I am very happy with my QX 9650 performance, I am able to play the game maxed out with no slows, freezes or lag of any kind and with pretty natural, fluid motion.
First screenie is 54 FPS at the Shrine of Seven Stars (very crowded)
Second screenie is from a 25 man raid (44 FPS)

P.S.: My Core 2 Extreme became 5 years old this November.
P.S.2: I underclocked my CPU simply to prove wrong the "CPU PUSHERS" who say that in order to play WoW at ULTRA settings and decent FPS you need to have the latest INTEL CPU overclocked over 5 GHZ. The same people also say that GPU makes no difference in WoW, however, I can assure you that there is a BLOODY HUGE DIFFERENCE in WoW between my old AT RADEON HD 5830 and my Nividia GTX 580. The difference is BLOODY HUGE.

YES YES YES!! I agree with this 100%. I was running WoW on a Core2Duo E7400 and a GT240 for a long time. It ran fine. Sure I wasn't getting 60fps. Who the heck cares? The game doesn't look that much better at that speed anyway. YES! Having a GPU makes a huge difference! You do not need the latest and greatest hardware to run this game. Heck I still play WoW on a Gateway FX Laptop with a Core2Duo T5550 1.83Ghz Processor and an 8800M GTS GPU. It gets about 25FPS.

NO NO NO! FALSE!!! I now run a AMD Phenon II X6 on my rig and a Phenom II X4 on my wifes rig. We get great performance. She with the above mentioned GT240 gets about 30-40FPS in 25man raid and me with my GTS450 gets about 40-50FPS in same said raid party.

OP. Try reducing your Shadows to Low and all other settings to high. I will bet that you will see an increase in performance.

If your happy with those fps then all the power to you. However the screens you took was with almost nothing going on and you still had sub 60. Take the top screen for example with 44 fps standing around. I get almost double that during the fight with everyones spells going off. If I was standing where you were with what you have on that screen, I'd push around 120fps. You also mention 30-50 fps in Pandaria. Sorry man but to me that would suck. I notice stutter at 55, so keeping a solid 60 in my case matters.
I'm not hating at all, I'm just saying that the powerful intel cpu's are worth it, especially in this game. You have a great card for it though and are correct that Nvidia is much better than Radeon in this case. Btw I also have nothing overclocked. All stock gtx 680 / i5 - 3570k build.

I can post screenshots from capital cities (IF) with me getting 128 FPS. Does this mean anything?

Getting over 60 FPS is pointless, b/c the human eye cannot discern past 60.

54 FPS with fighting in a 25 man raid:

60.2 in a 5 man hc (MY FPS IS CAPPED AT 60)

Here's a screenie from Pandaria with me getting 75.6 FPS:

>The problem I have is with disingenuous "CPU PUSHER" people, such as those at MMO CHAMP, who blatantly lie and mislead people into spending thousands of dollars on ultra expensive PCs and ultra expensive "overkill" CPUS, promising them "great performance" in WoW, while you can get the same great performance with five year old CPUS such as mine, at ULTRA settings and while playing at 1920X1080.

I am sure you noted that I am top DPS in one of the 25-man screenies I posted. That means that my WoW experience is fluid and I get no stuttering or "freezes" as that would hurt my DPS, and I get that with five year-old hardware.

THAT makes people who paid $3k to build a "WoW gaming PC" on the advice of CPU pushers such as those at MMO CHAMP to get my kind of performance conned/swindled, and the people who push CPUS for WoW, such as those at MMO CHAMP, "con men".

I see what your saying. I agree, there is no reason to build a new high end comp just for this game. However having an intel / nvidia combo, be it older or newer is a big plus. Which in your case you do indeed use. Honestly from trying an 8120 and 7970 together, I think you are getting more fps than I was with that combo. Just goes to show what kind of hardware this game really prefers.

P.S.: Skada > Recount in the light-weight non-resource-hog way. My FPS can drop significantly from using Recount's "fps monitor" (was just trying it out, I normally avoid Recount for the aforementioned reasons) - with an Ivy i7 and an overclocked GTX 670.
