Just got a new Crucial 128GB M4 SSD, now what?

Thread Starter
I already have a OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD where my OS is. Got a new M4 SSD today and need advice on how to best utilize this drive.

Do I install Windows 7 on the new M4 SSD and use the M4 and OCZ SSD for games or do I leave the OS on the OCZ SSD and use the M4 for games?

I actually bought the new M4 to have more space on the drive where the OS is installed and steam uses the C drive by default.

I thill have a 1TB WD Caviar Black where all the other stuff is stored.

Just want to get it right this time and please tell me anything that needs to be done in the BIOS for optimum performance. I read about using an SSD for caching, would it best be to have the OS installed on the M4 and use the OCZ for caching? How would I set this up if so?

Thanks for help

Cheers

Use the bigger SSD for games, naturally!wink.gif

Also keep using the smaller SSD for OS and HHD for your various other files.

Transfer your Steam stuff over to the bigger SSD.

For more tips use Sean's SSD + HHD guide on this forum.

Oh sh.t.......I meant Crucial......stupid me...lol

I assume there is little performance gained from a SATA 3 vs. a SATA 2 SDD? The OCZ is a SATA 2 while the M4 is a SATA 3? Are you therefore saying that the most benefit from the 128GB M4 will be having more space or will the games load much faster on the M4 SDD?

I also added more RAM today (8GB now vs. 4GB before) and I noticed that in BF3, when I had only 4GB of RAM I was one of the last to join in the battle while others where alredy flying around or driving around in tanks. Now I have to wait with the other players to start playing. I like it.....

I will read through Sean's guide tonight, thanks.

Cheers

How large is your Steam install? I'd personally put OS/programs on the M4, and use the V2 for Steam unless your steam folder is going to go over 60 GB.

I'm guessing his steam is a lot more than 128gb. Mine is almost 300GB

I have not too many games that run on steam, but a 60GB SSD does not get you far at all these days......

The games I want to have permanently on a SDD are: BF3, Call of Duty MW2, Medal of Honor, F1 2012 and Flight Sim X.

I guess I will leave my OS on the V2 or I may even opt to get another M4 and use the V2 in my old Dell Inspiron 1318 Laptop.

Anyway, thanks for input.

Cheers
