basically If I sell my phenom II x4 955 c2 + am2+ board + 2x2gb DDR2 memory it would be enough to buy a used i3 2100 + cheap h61 board + 4gb ddr3 kit. should I go for it? I will only use this as a htpc/gaming pc. I want to lessen my bottleneck a bit ( I have a gtx 670 on this htpc check sig for additional info) seeing I wouldn't spend anything at all I figured why not. should I go for it?

This is a good question. The higher ipc on the intel chip will be better. But there is no overclocking on h61 boards. Well i think you can change a couple things like blck but thats about it.
I would go i3

I'd invest a little bit of cash and get a slightly better board and maybe the lowest end i5? Even a used i5 would be great.
The i3 is a bit weak for some games, but it's a slight upgrade and it uses lots less power.
EDIT: If you part it out you'll get a fair bit on eBay.. People looking for a 4GB kit of DDR2 800 is intense.. I got $66 for a 4GB Corsair kit and $33 for a 2GB kit. Total of $99, I then got 16GB of Samsung Eco for $100.
The processor you could possibly get a bit for.. Depends if you know anyone with an Athlon/similar that wants to upgrade and then "Install" it for them and then flog their older CPU off on eBay for a bigger profit.

Honestly, I dunno if it would be faster in all that much, but definitely more stable and cooler. If you can get an 2500k, it would be so much more worth it.

I would definitely upgrade to the i3 2100.
I might be Bias having one myself, but they're powerful! it is totally worth the upgrade!
and hey, may as well keep your tech up to date right?
Edit: Also, RAM is fairly cheap, why not get yourself an 8GB ddr3 kit?
