Highest PPD VM Config for an X6?

So, here's my deal. My GPU does almost 10k PPD so I don't want to give it up, but afaik VM folding will do more PPD than Windows v7. What's my best setup with VM, and will I still be able to set up HFM? I'll have Win V7 GPU, VM SMP, and Laptop SMP/GPU v7 Win (Not VMing on that machine, just not worth it)

If you have some decent skills in linux command line, you can install a ubuntu-server-10.10 install in a VM then just install the v7 client and manually configure it to allow remote access.  Then you just need make sure your VM is emulating a physical network connection, assign it a static IP on your router, then set up your Windows v7 client to access the VM client and you will have full control.

 

The easiest setup I found was to run the VM's v7 client in a "screen" session.  I've got my web server configured like this, it's just not folding right now.

Yep, I took the lazy way out and just do:

 

 

In /etc/rc.local:

screen -dmS fah7 /home/web/fah/FAHClient.sh

Oops, noticed a mistake in my copy&paste:

In /home/web/fah/FAHClient.sh:
cd /home/web/fah/

And I didn't include the instructions on actually unpacking it. I forget exactly how I unpackaged it, but I can take a look tonight after work.

I used this easy install guide for v7. And I will try that together with Axi's way detailed above to start it in screen, which I like a lot.

If you do it like that, won't it run it as root? Which has some downsides, if you wanna start it manually you have to put in sudo etc.

Adding sudo -u [user] to that line should start it as the user, no?

Like so (web is the name of the current user):

Still a Linux noob so, I'm not sure you actually need the sudo-part in there, but that's how one guide stated that it should be written.

Still a Linux noob so, I'm not sure you actually need the sudo-part in there, but that's how one guide stated that it should be written.

 

Yeah, it Will run as root, but since this isn't a web server that is exposed for attackers, I didn't see a big problem. I was just too lazy to look for other ways to get stuff to run on system start other then rc.local.

I think I used to know how...

Oh - I remember. It was on android, but I wrote right into the kernel/ramdisk to call all scripts on boot. *sigh* why can't Ubuntu be more like Android.
