Some Best Bang for Bug CPU+MOBO Suggestion

Thread Starter
Few days ago while running open case, my motherboard lit on fire and died. This is even after I salvaged what was left of it after it didn't play nice with my PSU and burned the connector. Now that I mailed it in for RMA, I think to myself, maybe it's time for a new system. So I was hoping you guys can recommend a cpu + mobo system that is under, 550 usd for low graphic intensive mmo gaming.

Bang for Buck, not "bug". sry. A bit drunk right now.

Thinking x79, but I'm not sure if 2011 socket is worth it. I was looking at some asrock n asus x79s and they sure look nice.

It doesn't sound like you have any use for a X79 board that would make it a cost-effective solution for you. Unless you plan to use a lot of RAM, soemthing that is very CPU intensive like heavy-duty rendering, or run tri- or quad-SLI there really isn't any point in socket 2011. Just get an Ivy i5, a Z77 MB, and 8GB of DDR3-1600. You plan on overclocking?

i5 3570K- $220, or i7 3770K- $320
ASUS P8Z77-M Mobo - $125

Should be more than enough. RAM is cheap... pick accordingly, and with what you have left, if you still need a GPU, get what you can.

Indeed z77 looks like a good solution, but my psu is 1200 watt, so I plan to go tri sli or fire sooner or later. The other thing is from newegg I found the 3820k 2011 cpu is 280 atm, and a x79 mobo is around 210 on sale atm. They're in my price range so I'm leaning both ways atm. All I do is some online mmo gaming, maybe move to skyrim online when it comes out. Anyways I appreciate the suggestions. But I'm still totally undecided like those dumb ass undecided voters 5 minutes before the election. I'll definitely check out more mobo and build threads on ocn and research more.

Cheers

If all you are doing is MMO, why would you go tri-card? Are you running a multiple monitor setup? If you just want to spend the money, then a 2011 system is a good idea for tri-card setups, but it doesn't really sound like you need that kind of GPU power.

I do have 3 monitors, 26 inchers. But the only reason why I'd want three cards is b/c, COMON man It'd look so nice.

For a Z77 system, i5-3570K + Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 > Every i5 + Z77 combo in terms of price/performance.

I say the 3570k + GA z77X-UD3H

What I recently went with. Furthermore at MicroCenter (if youre near one) the combo is 180+105=$285 (before taxes).

Also at MC is the Asrock Extreme4 for 95 + 180 for 3570k=$275 (before taxes)

I was originally going with the extreme4 but ended up going with the gigabyte. I prefer gigabyte and its supposedly "higher quality". Regardless, either will be a solid choice.
