Build the machine you want online, but call them and buy it over the phone. If you can kinda sweet-talk them, you can generally lower the price a good margin. I'd go for the 7970M and be sure to upgrade the screen to 1080p too.

If you say something like, "I've got my eyes on the M17x here but the Sager NP9170 is a fair amount cheaper with the same specs, but I'd really rather get the M17x if I can..." or something to that nature. Ask about discounts or see if they can price-match the Sager machine, which is the best way to haggle down the price.

The M17x is a fantastic machine. I love my R2 model and the R4 out now is pretty sick. biggrin.gif Best cooling, bar-none, for any 17" laptop. ^_^

Best cooling eh? Around how hot does it get when running at load?

I can't really test any Alienware products here since they DON'T sell it here... :| But i asked the Dell store, and guy i talked said that they do service Alienware.

Well the R4 runs at around 70*C on the CPU and GPU. If the graphics chip is overclocked, the temps generally stay right there. My R2 isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread but it's handling a 100w GPU when the slot is only designed for a 75w GPU. tongue.gif If that doesn't say something, I don't know what does. wink.gif

Yeah, I've gotta ask, why are you comparing these two? One weighs as much as 10x the other and is around 2.5x the size. If you're ONLY going on cost here, then you really need to do more research. >_>

Practicality would depend on what you would be using it for and how often you move. That would help us help you with your decision.

If you are moving a lot and playing world of tanks the mbp 13 would be ok.

If you aren't moving at all and you play bf3 the m17x would be good.

You just don't get it. You're basically comparing a Ferrarri to a Buick. Do you know what's wrong with comparing a Ferrari to a Buick?

Edit: Speedster is completely clueless. This is the same person who is thinking about getting a Macbook with Retina and install Windows on it instead.
