I've seen many programs that auto detect missing/outdated drivers on your computer. I have tried one before but it didn't work very well. Does anyone has any suggestions. I have windows 8 so it should be compatible with it . Thanks

I know that MSI and Gigabyte have their own tools for such a problem. At least MSI used to in the socket 775 days. The Gigabyte one uses active x via Microsoft internet explorer. Check your motherboards manufacturers website would be your best bet.
I think I know some of the "free" programs you're talking about. They probably won't actually do anything besides point out what's outdated.
Personally when i'm re-installing the OS i use a thumb drive and download the drivers first so when i get in the OS i can install them straight off it. In my experience with my Gigabyte board there doesn't seem to be any default internet connectivity. And there up to date this way.
