When the 7890 comes out, the prices of the 7870/7850 will drop too which is always a good thing.

True. And maybe Nvidia will come up with some price drops or sales, to try to match the competition. No matter what, this can't be bad news for anyone.

Good point, let's hope we see some significant price drops, if they do affect the 7900 series, I might just get another 7970! biggrin.gif

I doubt it, since it's based on a 79xx chip.

Well, there's not much info yet. Except that they're being designed to be 15% more powerful than a GTX 660. So that leaves it some place around the 7950. As it's not released yet, no one knows for sure yet.

7890 CF (or even 7870s) in the 450$ range will be much faster than a 7970.
But the scaling isn't always as it should be and micro-stuttering is an issue that single card owners never seem to face.

I thought the 7950 was 20% better what with the new drivers? definitely has more overclocking headroom imo, but maybe im wrong. All i know is the last xx90 card i got was a 4890 and it was a beast. oc'd almost to 5850 levels. so this might be a gem. Im guessing it will be as fast as a 7950, with half the memory, slower memory speeds and some TAU's off like the 7870...only makes sense

Hmmm ....nah.

I'm waiting for HD 8850/HD 8870 if I replace the 5970.

Also, I think I'd be more tempted for a HD 7930. The 7890 sort of makes me think that the difference is a 256bit vs 384bit ...if not in addition to reduction in core count. Not definite on that, the HD 6790 was a 6770 with a 256bit bus after all. Still, where else are there corners to be cut to accommodate the lower price?
