$1000: Enough for a TF2 server?

Thread Starter
Games played will mostly be 10v10s because there are 20 of us. I'm hosting the server. This will also be used for Minecraft, CS:S and Teamspeak.

We're all good friends and we're all going to chip in and fork over $50. (50x20=1000)

So, the question is, is $1000 enough? (1000 is a maximum by the way.)

Approximate Purchase Date: Soon as enough feedback is given to make a decision.
Budget Range: 1000 MAX
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Hosting a TF2 server.
Are you buying a monitor: Yes
Do you need to buy OS: No, linux will be used.
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg
Parts Preferences: None
Overclocking: Doubt it?
SLI or Crossfire: No
Your Monitor Resolution: Kind of irrelevant, but I'm probably wrong - 1366 x 768 or 1600x900 maybe.

Parts picked already: (never built a server before so all this is probably baloney but I'll give it a shot)

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 ATX Intel Motherboard
GPU: Do we need one?
Memory: G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1600 X2 of this
Storage: Intel 330 Series 180Gb Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital 1TB Caviar Blue
PSU: Rosewill Capstone 500W
Case: Suggestions?
ODD: ASUS 24X DVD Burner
Monitor: Suggestions?

Total: $785 on Newegg

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you need something like that for a server? I've done call of duty server hosting and counter strike source server hosting and they don't use much resources o_O, unless you're planning on using the pc (which is usually bad and end up making the server spike whenever you do something), a cheap quad core/dual core from ivy bridge would be fine. GPU isn't needed i guess, (i'm guessing tf2 server hosting runs a console and that's it?) so you probably just need a motherboard with a vga or something integrated into the i/o or something.
Case, just get something cheap/decent for example antec 300v2. It's just, if this is a dedicated server rig for games like tf2, i think 1k is plenty, you could probably do well with even lower budget.

I agree with you, but if he isnt in the mood to save, then that server would be perfect. He can host TF2 along with a multitude of other games with it. Minecraft, CS:S, Call of Duty, Etc.

But yes, those specs are a bit overkill for just TF2.

Oh, yeah I forgot to mention the computer will host both a TF2 server and a Minecraft server at the same time. Is it fine to host two servers on one computer? I've only ever hosted one on one computer.

Will it cause issues?

Since we're talking server here, how about a Vishera 8-core build with tons and tons of RAM? You could use the server for more than TF2, like minecraft, teamspeak and multiple VMs for you and your buddies.

If you're hosting more than one game server, the only problem would be if your internet could handle it, i know this sounds a bit stupid but when one spikes, the other tends to spike as well.

Can't you host a TF2 server on a really minimal setup? Why not use an old PC that's sitting around with a Athlon 64 X2 or Phenom X4 and 4GB of DDR2??? I don't think $1000 is at all needed for a TF2 server.

I'd use a Z77 Xeon instead of the 3570K.
Also, you won't need a custom cooler if you get the Xeon.
