The generic Windows driver does not have to be removed. Just install the driver that you want to use, reboot, and then you'll be all set. There is no need to do anything else.
The reason is that I want to install the original drivers from the disk is for testing purposes. I know this isnt the right place, but my graphics card (HD 5870) drivers crash when ever I update them from driver version 8.6 (this comes on the disk with the card)... and now with windows 8, the default drivers are already a few versions above this, 8.97 to be precise, and thus, this causes the drivers to crash when I play games. The only stable version I have found is the one that came on the disk with my card...
