Your opinion on downgrading?

Alright - So when I was in Kansas City I decided to pick up my Core i7 3820 + an X79 motherboard because they where cheap and I wanted a platform that supported PCI-Express 3.0. I ended up getting a Core i7 3820 and ASrock Extreme4-M for a total of $425 ($50 when buying mobo/cpu combo at Microcenter). I then purchased a 7870, Corsair H60, 16GB of RAM and a 550W 80PLUS modular PSU and a NZXT Vulcan (Now gone) overall I spent about $1000 and half of it went into the motherboard and processor

As time has gone on I realized I don't really need the power that I have. I generally surf the web, watch Netflix, and play less than demanding games such as CS:GO, CS:S, TF2, L4D2, ect. The only demanding game I play is Battlefield 3. I know I can sell my 3820 for more than what I purchased it for considering the chip goes for $319 on Newegg. If I sell the board + processor I will get the money I spent back. I am thinking of selling my EVGA X79 FTW + my 3820 + Corsair h60 for $470 total then purchasing a A10 5800K, A75 motherboard and Micro ATX case for a total of $300. Doing this would leave me with $170 cash.

My last worry is that if I downgrade to an A10-5800K that my gaming FPS will suffer majorly. I have a 7870 that I don't intend to get rid of - simply because of the hassle. Would the A10 bottleneck the GPU? How much FPS loss would I get switching from a 3820 + 7870 vs an A10 + 7870?

Thanks!

Changing motherboards would be too much of a hassle, and a lot of time wasted on installing a new OS, games, and programs.

1. A better choice would be just to sell the cpu, and replace it with something cheaper like an i3 2120 or i5 2400.
You get some of your money back and still keep the high FPS with your 7870.

2. Sell the 12GB ram and just keep 4GB which is more than enough for your usage.

If your wanting to downgrade, Go i3. get an h61 board, keep at least 8GB of your memory, And also keep your graphics card.

You do realize he has an x79 board right? He can't drop an i3 or i5 chip in there.

For only netting around $170, I'd just keep it, not worth the hassle. You can use that motherboard/cpu for another good 4+ years, I can't say the same for the A10

Anything in particular that compels you to go for trinity?
I'd +1 for not worth the hassle as well. At least this way you can get a 3930k or higher when they drop a bit in price if you needed a bit of an upgrade down the road.

AMD has announced FM2 will be around for about 3 years. I've personally build a A8-5600K rig and it fit my needs in every aspect except hardcore gaming.

I'd only be netting $130 because i'd also be purchasing a $100 Micro ATX case. My current rig no longer has a case. I also intend on selling one of my 8GB sticks of RAM.
