Ivy is out of the question for me. I am not investing in a socket with no future - regardless if it currently offers faster processors.

I'd only be netting $130 because i'd also be purchasing a $100 Micro ATX case. My current rig no longer has a case. I also intend on selling one of my 8GB sticks of RAM.

Well, I'd try playing battlefield on your a8 system, if it can play it fine, then sure, get an a10.

It's not mine - it's a system I build for a friend of mine - but his system doesn't have a dedicated video card. I'd go check it out - but my vehicle is currently out of commission.

Well I imagine you wouldn't see too much of an FPS Loss, I mean what is your current? as long as the FPS is @ 60+ you should be fine.

This argument is silly. Do you expect the AMD board to last through 2 cpu upgrades? I mean in 4 years you will probably be looking to replace your motherboard anyways for new features and what evers and what nots. Unless you plan on keeping your mobo for a few years I just don't think it's worth it.

I don't expect - I know FM2 will be around for 3 more years. AMD has announced it themselves I don't doubt it either because AMD has been the best about keeping sockets relevant for long periods of time. I'd like the ability to simply upgrade the motherboard/CPU rather than having to upgrade both over time. I am the kind of person who cannot stand having hardware once it's sockets irrelevant. Buying into LGA 1155 for my main rig is an absolute no go for me.

On the other-hand I wouldn't mind having a A10-5800K in a newer motherboard for a newer processor in a older motherboard and vise versa - but once the socket becomes irrelevant I will no longer consider it.

While i don't suggest moving to ivy, it will most likely be faster than anything amd releases on that socket.

I don't quite understand why you would want to go to a A10-5800K, when you can go for a AM3+ with a similarly priced CPU that has more power. If you want something with more power when you have A10-5800K then you going to have to sell your motherboard again.

My concern is lack of support and lack of life on AM3+
