What would be a worthy CPU upgrade!? - Page 2

+1 for overclocking your current cpu, drop 30 bucks on a 212+, an extra 10 on another 120 for a Push-Pull config and enjoy. I see no reason that a 1045 can't handle a 680 at the moment. Maybe a slight bottleneck at 3.0-3.5 but def a smaller gap than you are seeing now. If you HAVE to upgrade, used cpu/mobo combo would def suffice.

I will give it a try, and I do have a hyper 212 cooler so im sure I can get a decent overclock. But will It compare to a 2700k or a 3570k even at 4Ghz?

I guess I just want the best of the best but if I can get a vast improvement just by overclocking I'll take it!
no it wont compare to any great extent BUT you wont notice. the difference in gaming isnt huge.
and yeah, get 8gb of 1600 ram. its only $40-45 for the samsung 'wonder' ram. it overclocks great.
and dont forget to oc your cpu-nb. your minimum framerates go up in huge way. 3.8ghz core and a cpu nb of 2800 with tight timings on your ram and youll be glad you saved the money you did.

you can see in my sig what i ran last year and what i run now. im not a fan or hater of either. there is no reason to upgrade for gaming on a single 680.

Are you willing to overclock? If not get an ivy 3570 or 3770k, but mobo and CPU will push your $400 limit.

Seems you have a decent mobo, I would try an 1100t and over clock to 4.0ghz+, my 4.2ghz 1100t did really good on bf3 1080 with a gtx570, if used prices are not worth it and you want an Fx CPU you really want to overclock it but going with the new fx8350 isn't a bad choice now, they seem to have brought up performance from bulldozer a bit and with the current pricing its not a bad choice at all, especially since you already have an am3+ mobo. Single gpu setups don't do bad with amd, even though my 1100t seemed to have signs of STARTING to bottleneck, GPU use n bf3 fluctuated n the 90s% when I went 2500k it always stayed at 98-99%

I guess I just want the best of the best but if I can get a vast improvement just by overclocking I'll take it!

I have a 1055t to 4,1 ghz ( 3,2 Ghz NB) and a ASUS gtx 670 DC II Top with 1363 core/7300 ram, better than your 680 probably, if you have it to stock, and playing almos always at 99% usage

And can i assure you that playing at 1080p you will not notice differences.

A phenom II with overclocking is more than enough for a GTX680, just put it over 3,5 or 3,7 Ghz, it will be enough, and almost 100% of thuban reach those speeds,

Dont forget to rise NB as high as you can and left HT closer to stock.

Sorry for my english:o

If you overclock upwards of 4GHz, you'll be set for most games.
Keep your current processor, overclock it, and buy some faster RAM for your system. I'd look for an 8GB 1600MHz CL8 set or better.

Get an fx8320 it is by far the best bang for buck cpu out there at the moment, in modern games at real world resolutions it is only marginally slower than a 3570k, with the added benefit tgat if you ever need to do anything heavily multithreaded you will kill a 3570k

I like that idea ^

$400 for an upgrade would be worth it when a newer generation of tech comes out beyond Ivy Bridge and Bulldozer maybe 2 years from now, I think my system should be good till then
