Can all Wireless cards create a hotspot?

Thread Starter
Maybe more specifically wireless N cards.

What I need to do is go buy a wireless card to connect into my PC at work to make a hotspot for my Nexus 7 to connect to. We only have a wired connection at work going into my computer. So I'm wondering if I can make the mistake of buying the wrong kind of wireless card or if what they have at compusa will work. Thanks.

You should be able to do ad-hoc mode with pretty much anything.
You could ICS or bridge off of that onto your wired interface if you wanted WAN.

Thanks for the response , I went ahead and got one from comp usa and was able to setup the ad-hoc very easy, however I quickly learned my nexus 7 will not find or support that kind of connection... now I will try a bluetooth connection.

Try using Connectify-me it might work. I've used it before on my Nexus 7 and it works fine.

Did you try enabling Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the wired network?

Yeah, I set up an ad-hoc network and enabled ICS, however I learned shortly after when looking online ( and after not being able to see the connection on my N7 ) that android tabs don't support ad-hoc? Or that some do with slight modification, however I'm not sure anything has come out with anything for the N7 yet.
