How to cure MMO Meloncholy? - Page 2

I feel ya bud. Ultima Online created a void which can never be filled again. frown.gif

It has in a sense ruined gaming for me as I just can't get such a great gaming experience anywhere else.

Browse the recruiting forums and see if someone will take you under their wing.

I feel exactly as you do, I love to have an MMO to dedicate time to because you can truly build up your own character over many years and have a sense of achievement and the carrot on a stick just makes it fun to play because hell, everybody loves new shiny gear.
I am not sure if you're like me though and will only play subscription MMO's, because I tend to find thats F2P leads to all kinds of pay to win nonsense etc. etc.

Currently only one game is on the horizon that I can see to fit these requirements and that's ArcheAge online, although it's only just gone into Korean beta so it'll be ~2014 that we start to see the English version start up. For 2012/2013, good luck, all we have is GW2 which isn't a very standard MMORPG.

You played UO, how comfortable are you with text based games?

Oh, and make some new friends in UO, there are still some good private servers out there. I know it's not the same because you're not all collectively going through the growing pains of reaching skill cap, but it's not hard to find other ways to enjoy UO as a group.

Try LOTRO if you're looking for something else like WoW. F2P, no pay 2 win scenarios, you can try it out and see if you like it with nothing invested but time. You're also dealing with Middle Earth, which is a hell of a lot more interesting than pandas and cow-people squabbling over patches of dirt.

Thank you all for the comments! At work so I'm struggling to reply with quotes. But ya I have minecraft and its fun but I haven't really played it in a yearish.

I don't know if I could really go back to UO I think now its more of a graphics issue with that game for me I mean at some point there is a line for me.

I'm thinkin about maybe giving EVE another shot since its so heavily suggested but man that learning curve I hope it's better.

On a side note I have been looking at TESO which I think looks pretty good and all day today I have been amped for it and then I was like well do I really want to play another dungeon/raid crawler game, and it deflated me. And with that I honestly am at a loss with upcoming MMOs I don't see any big triple AAAs that seem really enticing to me. I feel like a total mess without an MMO its pretty sad.

Side note #2 someone earlier suggested I get into the raiding grind in WoW, I have been raiding since vanilla in WoW but since ulduar I haven't had much fun raiding, right now I'm at 4/6 heart of fear and I have no desire to log in to raid at all frown.gif

I'm 20 so my big thing was WoW when I was in middle and high school. Had lots of fun and met hundreds of people through various guilds, did the content together and whatnot, and it was a blast. I still laugh watching the fraps videos I have with the vent chatter included. It was great fun, but I too now struggle with finding similar enjoyment in current mmos. Its almost like every mmo that has come out has been affected by the "but will it be better than WoW?" kind of mentality that sort of just kills the game before it grows. With WoW, I really had nothing to compare it too, so it was all fantastic to me at the time.

I doubt I'll find another MMO that has that kind of grip on me again, mostly because now I actually have social responsibilities like school and work to deal with. But hey, it was fun while it lasted.

I think ideally I would love a game like SWG where you have a character to place buildings style of game. I watched a few EVE tutorial videos and I just don't know if I can get into that style of gameplay, I sort of like having a character to play.

I think I will just finally beat BL2 and XCOM...and Dead Island...and torchlight 2...and Anno 2070..Ugh another problem, i buy so many games but never finish them haha.

I just want a mmo with NO leveling, just straight raiding and TONS and TONS and TONS of raid content because no time and no effort was put into the leveling game...to the point it takes forever to conquer all content.

But this mmo has a central city hub like org and sw as an example.

why no one has done this is beyond me

Simple, emotional bonds. If your character doesn't progress, why should you care about him? Sure quests are fun, but if they bring you no reward other than completion, you'll start looking elsewhere for that satisfaction. wink.gif
