plenty of progression if your game has at LEAST as many raids as games have zones.

why no one has done this is beyond me

I always thought It'd be a better system to have your skills level rather than your character, so even low level characters can beat you.
Eg.

You play a mage who uses fire spells a lot, they increase is power as you use them. But, because you stay the same essentially you do not increase in health which can allow a lower level player to still be capable of killing you.

Obviously though the spells would be powerful enough to damage the other players too much since the health doesn't increase but the power does, so there would need to be a system to balance that out.

The character leveling concept is too unbalanced imo...

It has in a sense ruined gaming for me as I just can't get such a great gaming experience anywhere else.

Same for me, until EA got their hands on it anyway.

Pre-Trammel UO was amazing. The scope and depth of gameplay is still unmatched by any mmo to date imo though. So many mmo's today focus only on combat, UO had soooo much more.

UO had predecessors which beat it hands down. tongue.gif

I know you are looking for MMORPG's, but I felt like mentioning it anyway. If you liked Diablo 2 (ARPG) you can try Path of Exile. It is 10 dollars to get into the closed beta but it is a free2play model and anti-pay2win. There will be a character wipe once open beta starts, which is expected to be next month. Once open beta starts, there will be no more wipes even when the game is officially released. So... gamble the 10 dollars now for early access, or wait until the game enters open beta.

And in my experience with Eve, my main problem is I am more of a PvE kind of person so right off the bat I'm already in the wrong game. Because of that, I absolutely hate their design that your skill training continues to train while you are logged out (I seriously think this was a genius design by the designers so that players keep paying for subscriptions even if they decide to "quit"). There is nothing you can do in-game to grind for a Skill Point boost. This is excluding how you can optimize your character's attributes, and on top of that, an attribute reset is ONCE PER YEAR. Skill Points accumulation is 100% passive and hard-locked (and influenced by your character's attributes).

So I was a little bit successful yesterday in my gaming endevours. Didn't log on to WoW at all so immediately logged in to borderlands 2 for a couple hours, bought chivalry and played that for a few hours and wow that game is fun. Finished my night off with a new XCOM game and some crusader kings 2.

I think I'll try to beat each game once at a time (obviously not chivalry or CK2) and keep my eye on Elder Scrolls Online and Wildstar.

One other thing to note, SWTOR is going F2P next Friday. If you enjoyed that game you can always pick it up to play it here and there without having to worry about a sub.

I have been toying with the idea of messing around with swtor but with all the bad press I'm not sure I could play it again. I had gotten to level 50 on multiple toons already.

I think part of the reason why I have issues with MMO's lately is because I get influenced too damn easy. Yesterday I was sure I wouldn't want to play EVE I literally read a 2 paragraph thread just now about EVE and now I'm dieing to play it. ***
