How to cure MMO Meloncholy? - Page 4

Honestly Vanilla WoW- BC was my favorite. It was still fun after that, but slowly lost its appeal.

SWTOR was awsome while i played (when it first came out) i found PVE content was lacking as we cleared everything within the first month or two, but I know they have been releasing new stuff. I never wanted to quit, but all my RL friends quit and the guild went to crap. PVP was a blast though, gonna miss my huttball.

I'm waiting on Elder Scrolls Online to see if its a bust or not. I know your a MMO fan, but i'd say try some BF3 if you haven't. I'm not a huge FPS guy by any means, I play BF3(casually) and i have a blast killing people and still having that "progession" feeling when you get new guns/attachments/weaponsystems

I played UO from 1999-2003 and then played on UO:Hybrid for a year or so in like 2006/2007. Hands down the best game I have ever played. I tried to play IPY2, but it wasn't the same "feel". I'm in the same place in terms of not really sticking with a game.

The only game I found a new home at was EVE Online. I go through spurts where I play for weeks at a time and then slow it down when I'm bored or busy. This game is really only worth playing if you have a group of existing friends or are willing to join a corp. I'm guessing PVP is probably your thing and either going straight to nullsec with a larger alliance on a recruitment drive, or joining something like Red vs Blue (RvB) would be a great way for a new pilot to just get right into the thick of pvp.

The game is again.. what you make it. If you stay in high sec and run missions or rat all day, your going to hate the game in a week. It took me 3-4 times to really get into it, but I currently have a small group of 6-7 friends from all over that I play the game with. When we get bored we play other stuff like HoN or w/e - but is is the closest i've come to enjoying any sort of online game anymore.

Ya I have BF3 but I got a bit bored of it fast a month after it came out.

@rmp459
To be totally honest I'm not super fond of pvp so I'd be happy trying to the best miner(?) or whatever crafter/gatherer in EVE I could be. In UO I actually RPed a city with my guild and my character was mainly a blacksmith/miner with some fencing and other combat skills. I mean I would PK in UO when I was bored but I'm more of a crafter type guy. Support style mmo gamer FTW!

Hey I'm new to the site and stumbled across your post.

I too am an avid MMO fan and did the SWG, EvE, WoW trifecta. Unfortunately I don't know anything currently out at the moment that will really scratch that itch you're feeling, but have you heard about Star Citizen?

I think it looks like one of the most promising titles in many, many years. Basically everything I wish EvE would have been.

Basically playing no MMO right now makes me feel homeless!

I played daoc, swg, wow, eve, tor, etc. Ultimately it comes down to the community, finding a good group of people and enjoying a game together.

Even a bad game can be fun with the right group (EVE, I'm looking at you).

So basically I'm saying find a group that sticks together even as the games change. You might also want to expand on genre a bit and try something team-based like Planetside2. Playing organized in that game hits the same buttons that raiding did in WoW and your character grows too.

PVP in EVE is not twitch based. It's fleet based, you do as your told and you hope the Fleet commander knows what he's doing. Well that's if you're not filling a specific role which has you thinking and acting on your own (logistics, ewar or titan etc.). However, I suggest you work hard to afford new ships and gadgets before venturing into PVP. That way you know the worth of things when you lose them or even better, when you kill them. You'll get a rush that you've never felt in any game when you first encounter PVP; (Consensual or not) your heart races, you get cold sweat and a faint glimmer of either panick or anticipation. thumb.gif

I gave EVE a go for a few hours tonight but it's just not clicking with me the way I want it to. Been playing a lot of XCOM because it's about time I beat that game. Part of me wants to give RIFT another go with the expansion coming out (and the fact I bought a year + Infinity edition xpac) but I still don't know how badly I want to keep doing scheduled raids.

I'm really hoping in the next year a decent Themepark/sandbox hybrid comes out. EQ Next and Wildstar are looking promising, Archage looks a little to asian (no offense) for me.

Being the elder scrolls lover I am the elder scrolls mmo coming out actually doesn't look too bad to me, although I'm not sure how much I'll like the forced cursor/targeting reticule frown.gif

Not gonna lie, EVE is probably one of the most boring MMOs in existence.

I too am an avid WoW player and found myself needing to take a break every now and then. Played Rift for a bit and SWTOR as well. Then decided to play one of my Steam Games. BFBC2. I still go into my favorite server and knock out a few games every so often. A break is nice from time to time.
