How to cure MMO Meloncholy? - Page 6

Ya I've played all the games you listed, I actually bought Tera on a whim and it was a bit too "asian" for me. But I'm installing SW:ToR now and give that another go.

So I'm "free" at the moment. I ended up quitting raiding in WoW, I've installed rift and swtor and just uninstalled them right after because I really don't want to play a raiding based theme park at the moment. Between working fulltime for the first time EVER, raiding drains me hard.

So my question to anyone would be, NOT INCLUDING EVE, does anyone know of any really good upcoming (or released) sandbox-ish MMO's? For example SWGish, even RIFT is adding housing which is a step in the right direction but still based on raiding.

Literally having no subscription to anything right now is just making my mind melt.

Everquest went semi-F2P earlier this year, try giving that a shot. That game will keep you going for a long LONG time. It was my first MMO and I only recently stopped playing it this past spring, and EQ Next should be out within a couple more years hopefully. I also really enjoyed SWTOR but the lack of end game content (at least at launch) was a turn off. But the pvp was by the best I've played out of any mmo (WoW, Rift, Aion, Warhammer (close second though), AoC). I'm hoping that the Elderscrolls MMO will prove to be worthwhile.

You know I did give EQ a try and I think the graphics are what drew me away from it mainly. I've been playing skyrim most of my night and its kind of growing me again in terms of sandbox.

Part of me is debating playing GW2 again, just not 100% sure.

Give planetside 2 a go! I have 4 keys left to give buddies!

Everquest 2 doesn't look as dated. Looks better than WoW in places, in my opinion, and is much more challenging. It's been F2P for a long while now, though I don't entirely agree with their business model. Still, you can roll with the F2P long enough to get a good feel for the game and then throw down for a subscription fee if you like it enough.

this is what i do. i look for different interesting games and play them when i'm bored of another. my current drug of choice doesn't really include a MMO tho they are all online based.. if you like diablo type games. then try path of exile. that's pretty fun. tho it's more of a online solo game.

if you enjoy shooters, i would recommend ghost recon online. that game is much more focused on teamplay so you may enjoy that aspect of it (most people play it like a regular shooter, but the good players tend to group up and just pwn people who do not team up.

i've always been a big mechwarrior fan so tried it alittle. but of the few games i did play, it seems pretty fun and shows alot of potential.

a single player game i've been playing lately is crusader kings 2. it's pretty addictive, but gets tedious after your empire gets large. i'm starting to understand why some of the historical kings were tyrants biggrin.gif

another game i've been keeping my eyes out for is end of nations. the vids look pretty cool. so might try that out. takes me back to old school command and conquer days biggrin.gif

I guess i'm at a phase where i'm slowly growing out of MMO's. there just aren't any on the market that really stands out. I thought SWTOR was going to be the thing... but like you said, there are just too much corporate bull to keep me playing. didn't realy help their cause that they totally ruined dragon age 2 and botched the mass effect 3 story...

I guess there's really only 1 studio left that has become the last hope. I really hope Bethesda doesn't cash in on their good will and turn into another bioware/blizzard.... who knows, maybe eventually CD Projekt would evolve into something of those caliber but the studio is still relatively young and poor.

I'm more of a hardcore MMO player and I usually don't hope games but at the moment I'm lost, just finished installing GW2 and its growing on me a little bit again, I do enjoy the fact I can log in and log off whenever to do some exploration.

But ya ef crusader kings 2, I put over 100 hours in that in 2 weeks without even blinking my god I love that game SO much.

I'm keeping my eye on Wildstar because their housing looks great with the whole floating houses on the nexus planet thing (not instanced) and I havent read too much about it but apparently EQ Next will be sandboxy? And obviously I'll be watching elder scrolls online, I'm hoping they add some sort of sandbox elements (I would even take instanced housing) because then I'd love it even more.

I know what you mean. my "/played" on EQ1 was over 3 years biggrin.gif kinda funny that people talk about "oh i put 300 hours into this game... blah blah blah" I laugh at them and say you still measure "/played" with hours? come back after your /played is over 1200 days biggrin.gif

seems insane to put that much time into a MMO, but once you get into raiding, your time just disappears biggrin.gif

personally i'm at a point where i try to educate myself with different genre's of games and keep up with the general trends of what's going on in the gaming industry. as of right now, I see the evolution of the 2nd generation of big game studios as the 1st gen studios all get consumed by corporations. companies such as blizzard and bioware are starting to lose their luster. their game wont really be any "good" anymore because it's not profitable to make good games... mediocre games with their big game stickered onto it is enough to sell the box and make profit. fortunately there seems to be a new wave of smaller quality studios that are coming up that would create a new generation of gaming studios that we trust.

So just an update to anyone who may care what I am up to!

I've been playing RIFT Storm Legion since release in a very casual way and boy am I having fun. I'm setting goals for myself slowly, for example level 60 first then work on my dimension (housing). The thing that is making me enjoy Rift on a more mental state is that there is little to NONE corporate political drama (EA wih swtor for example) and it is so refreshing to play a good mmo run by a very community friendly private company.

I will admit one thing has me a tad nervous. I played MoP for about 2 months and raided and it was fun but then after a few weeks the boss kills in raids (even new bosses) started to feel meaningless and too quick to enjoy the kill. And the dailies got to me and I reached the point where I had nothing to do outside of raids so I quit. I know Rift offers a lot more in terms of things to do I just hope I can stick with it this time.
