2ND 7950 OR SINGLE 7970

as the title says. Should i get another 7950 or one 7970. if i go for a second 7950 i will have to upgrade mys psu due to only having two pci express plugs.
I am also thinking which would benefit my BOINC crunching the most?

Gt a 2nd 7950 of course.

If you clock the 7970 and the 7950 at the same clocks the 7970 will be around 3-5% faster. Not worth getting a 7970 wink.gif

Two 7950s will give you more power over a single 7970. I don't think there's anyway around it if you're willing to buy the new PSU.

I cant speak for BOINC, but for gaming reasons only, I would get a 2nd 7950 before just a 7970. The 7970 is going to perform better, but its not going to perform "sell my 7950 at used prices and buy a 7970 at new prices" better. If you're budget allows, you will get much more output from CFX 7950s, but your PSU and motherboard would have to support crossfire, which could get expensive. Fill out your rig in the rig builder so we can see what parts you are working with anytime you need advice.

I would go with whatever method would prove the cheapest, but two 7950's would be faster.

just overclock your 7950... if you need way more performance then wait for the 8000 series; then you can either buy a 8000 series card or just another 7950 when the price drops .

We arent talking gaming we are talking boinc lol overclocking wont add that many more points id get another 7950 or 7970 you can crossfire either and boinc on them. They come with molex to pcie so aslong as your psu is atleast a 850 watt you could run another one without upgrading it.
