The fact is that at this point it is a pretty solid game. Does that excuse the rocky start? Of course not, I was as frustrated as anyone but a good game is a good game. I don't blame people for being upset with Blizzard but I just knew it needed a little time after release. And before anyone says "They had 10 years!!!111!!," there were a lot of issues that could not be anticipated after the game was released.

Did they fix itemization, skill points, build diversity, random levels, boss drops... If by fix you mean nerf then sure. Anything fun or useful has been nerfed. Wiz proc chance, nether tentacles etc.. Tacked on Paragon is BS, so i can go grind inferno FOREVER to cap my magic find, then go use AH anyway. lol Ill stick with BL2. Just much more fun

Go play TL2, get used to that movement speed, then play D3. feels super slow. Also, game is devoid of enemies in many sections. Maybe they want you running uber slow with no enemies for 80% of game so you need to use AH because farming is not viable unless you only play D3, everyday, all day. Game is still fundamentally built around the AH, and that basically destroyed it.

When they removed the runes as items I just knew it was a bad deal... Game should be built around itemization, not buying items.

THIS... 1000x times this! The runes added so much to D2 that I really believe taking them out hurt the game in a lot of ways. For the sake of continuity... what, did Ba'al die and all of the sudden all the runes just go *poof* and no one remembers they existed? .... No more Zod hunting frown.gif

The overall lore and story is probably one of the worst jobs in a modern game. Runes are really the least of the worries there.

I agree though, runes were fun.

The expansion has been "ready" since D3's release, they've obviously just been holding onto it to cash in just like they did with D3. Push back the sequel time and time again through the 12 years that your millions of fans are excited for and you're guaranteed huge sales success.

You have to wonder though... would they have gotten more hate from Day 1 DLC, or delaying it so they can release it next year and still have a dozen patches necessary to make it work right?

Diablo 2 released 2000, with expansion in 2001. Diablo 3 is released in 2012 - you need to contextualise what you mean by "much better at release" - because frankly, for a game in 2000, you really had nothing to complain about Diablo 2.
Most problems were player created in Diablo 2 - and again, this is over 11 years ago - where they did not neccessarily have or pre-empt countermeasures as they can today. Hell, a lot of problems which plagued Diablo 2, still continues to plague many MODERN day games, INCLUDING Diablo 3 itself (duping has been proven to exist in Diablo 3, as with many other bugs).
Diablo 2, with its time, is one of the best games ever in the genre. Diablo 3, not so, simply because it does not live up to the date it came. Maybe if Diablo 3 came out in 2006, It would be a good game in its current condition relative to the time of release. But come on, for a 2012 game it is pretty much trash.
There seems to be this hipster uprising where they all assume this is just nostalgia attacking - it is not - it is a fair analysis - for a game which comes 11 years later - it should not have less classes, less features, less content, more limitations etc. It is not an excuse to say that it just released.
It reminds me how, when modern day (2011/2012) MMO's come out with lots of missing features - they compare it to WoW on release, saiyng it didn't have it. GUYS, look when WoW was released - if you are making a 2012 game you cannot justify missing content by saying "Well this game which is like many many years old didn't have this feature on release" etc.
Hope my point was clear.

- Wrong, diablo 3 has the exact same amount of classes diablo 2 had at release, diablo 2 didn't get the assassin and druid until LOD.
- Wrong, diablo 3 has just as many features as D2 including inferno mode, monster power, paragon levels, stash upgrades, better respec system for skills, higher versions of gems, and more.
- I don't know what you're talking about with more limitations.
What's going on.

I see the argument of comaring Diablo III at release to Diablo II at release as complete rubbish. Instead, you should be comparing the changes from Diablo III at release to the (then)current state of Diablo II to the changes from Diablo II at release to the (then)current state of Diablo. That's where the real comparison lies, and shows that Diablo III is not nearly as good of a sequel.

While not all wrong, a good amount of what you are saying is not completely accurate either.

1. Both D2 and D3 have the same amount of classes (Amazon, Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin, Sorceress VS Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk, Witch Doctor, Wizard), but D2 did not use a primary attribute as a baseline for DPS like D3 does, so D3 feels more "limited" in classes because you have 2 sets of classes fighting each other for gear in the AH

2. Diablo 3 does NOT have as many features as Diablo 2, especially if we are comparing at launch game content. Here are the things that D2 had and D3 does not:

- Runes (not to be confused with D3's Skill Runes) and Runewords
- Diamonds, Jewels, Skulls, and Charms
- Method to upgrade loot
- Open World
- Offline SP mode
- Modding ability for game
- LAN mode
- Horadric Cube
- Quick Skill Swap (F1-F5 I think?)
- Weapon and Shield Swap
- Mercenaries in MP games
- Creative or general class affixes IE +x to Bow/Amazon skills
- Intelligent itemization for loot
- Zero cooldowns for most skills (some have casting delays to prevent exploitation)
- Attribute customization and skill trees
- Set drop rates with logical percentages for boss runs (opposed to the random crap in D3)
- Rejuvenation potions
- Sprint
- Fast ID and ID All
- Much great utility for Town Portals and Waypoints
- PvP

Go play TL2, get used to that movement speed, then play D3. feels super slow. Also, game is devoid of enemies in many sections. Maybe they want you running uber slow with no enemies for 80% of game so you need to use AH because farming is not viable unless you only play D3, everyday, all day. Game is still fundamentally built around the AH, and that basically destroyed it.
When they removed the runes as items I just knew it was a bad deal... Game should be built around itemization, not buying items.

Dude I'm so tired of going into specifics over Diablo III I just don't have the energy for it anymore. Been having this conversation for a long, long time.

I agree though, runes were fun.

Yeah I thought the story was good at best. I liked it but it was no where near thrilling me, cinematics were great though. I was also hoping for the old rune system to return.

Assuming exaggeration is present here but that is a pretty bold statement.
