Can you overclock APUs?

Thread Starter
My question is in the title. My mother got a A-3400 APU, its default clock is 2.7ghz and it got a ideal temp of 10°C and on prime 95 after 1 hour 40°C so i wonder if u can overclock it, cause the mobo does give u an option to overclock. And if its possible then is it the same as o/cing a normal CPU?

Yes, you can overclock it.

I have not overclocked mine, did not even go into the specific Bios setting(s), but I'd imagine you might be dealing with core, memory and volts just like a GPU, more than a CPU, but I could be wrong. Either way, start small, keep testing stability and temps. Better look at your manual, AMD info on the APU, reviews and various people's attempts to learn about the threshold on speeds, temps (TJMax), what test tools to use etc... before you go for it.

you can overclock an apu, but there are a few things you should know.
you need a monitor that has an output other than vga
most apus have a locked multiplier, unless they have a "k" ie 3670k

Yes you can, but remember when you oc that chip. The only way is by the FSB. Went you oc by the FSB on these non-BE APU. You will be ocing the CPU/GPU/Memory/NB/HT too.
