impressive.

looks like the GTX690 does a really good job in power consumption compared to the other two.

Finally something has been done to resolve the micro stutter issues, but wished that the hd7990 can do it right out of the box.

Is it just me or did the HIS card sound a lot better than the GTX 690 while playing Crysis? Granted, it was clearly worse when bitcoin mining, but if you're mining on an nvidia card you're doing it wrong.

I highly doubt that someone buying a $1000 graphics card can't afford another few bucks on their power bill, especially when the performance gap is pretty wide in a number of titles. With GPGPU the power consumption difference is significant, but again GK104 can't into GPGPU so it's not a fair comparison.

Silence and overclocking are EVERYTHING?

You have to be kidding me kid.

90% of our customers don't care about silence or overclocking.

All they care about is just wanting to play games and maybe watch some video's.

Do more than 10% of your customers consider a $1000 graphics card?

Honestly, this review is just bunk and shows that THW is really out of touch with actual gaming.
The solution is to use D3Doverrider and force triple buffering. They go through all the effort to make pretty graphs, even going as far as to use third party software yet completely ignore a vastly superior solution with D3Doverrider. Nobody who understands these issues uses double buffered vsync anymore. Show us some benchmarks and graphs with triple buffering.

Guys, here is a better discussion on the issue. Pay attention to Vega's posts in particular. The THW article is flawed. Very flawed.

Yes dude, I know. That doesn't mean you can't have one made for a couple hundred dollars.

You might've had a point even 5 years ago. Certainly you did a decade ago. Not anymore. With all the easily installed and hassle free closed loop solutions available, I find you statement out-dated.

You might hate water. Lots of people hate lots of things. That doesn't make it right or logical.

As for you claiming water is a hassle and a waste of money? I call both false.

They are really good performers for sure, but this comment(below) worries me a bit and makes me wonder if it puts your motherboard at risk. Not sure why people worry that much about power consuption for a high end card for any other reason.

"They even manage to blow past the theoretical 525 W limit defined by the PCI-SIG electromechanical specification for three eight-pin connectors and a 16-lane slot."

Amazing what the new drivers have done because at launch the Devil 7990 was a tad less in performance over the 690.

I do have a question to the anomoly I noticed where the 7990 doing better at 2560x1440 and then the gap closing at higher resolution of 5760x1080 same settings where you'd think at that resolution the 690 with less VRAM would do worse?

Example: Crysis 2 DX11

2560x1080 5.9 FPS difference.

5760x1080 5 FPS difference

Looks to me like they are trading blows, you trade efficiency for more power(I would hate to be the person with the power bill). Kinda wish I knew how to read those microstutter graphs and that they had shown the 690 clocked at the same speed as both cards and the stock speeds but you can never have a perfect review that hits everyones interests.
