FX-6100 bottled at 3.8

Thread Starter
Afternoon folks.

Ive got an FX-6100, with an Asus M5a97 EVO board and 16gbs Vengence ram. Im looking at doing some overclocking, and so far, ive achieved 3.8 with the Asus Auto-tune. Once it gets to 4 GHZ, windows crashes and it reverts to 3.8GHZ, and says thats stable.

Im not familiar with overclocking in the Bios settings, hopefully someone can give me a hand with this one.

Im running an H100 cooling system in my CM 690 II advanced, with Batfwings. I currently idle at 25 degrees.

Load is about 32 degrees.

Any advise or help would be great.

Thanks,
Dan

I have a similar board not the evo just the bottom line base model.

Start at default voltages, manually enter in the default ones dont rely on the auto setting in bios. Just enter in what you know, like the Vcore most of the stuff you can leave it at auto.

start by increasing the multiplier by .5 until you reach instability at load, then increase the voltages by 1 steps, till you reach stability

there is something called Vdroop, which will have a negative affect in your voltages in windows, under load most boards without LLC will droop to a point of instability making you have high idle voltages to get the voltage you need at load.

I think the evo has LLC options, the regular M5A97 just has enable/disable lol

so you can play around with that, its supposed to detect when the cpu is at load and gives it more voltage

The new Asus GUI Bios that it comes with is pretty extensive.... So extensive that i don't know what half the **** does anymore. I went to change my Dram timings for my ram, and couldn't get nothing in the system. (had to look it up online)
