Is gtx660 worth it?

Thread Starter
Thinking about grabbing the EVGA 660 SC card. wondering if its worth it? I game on a single monitor @1920x1080. wondering what kind of longevity it would bring.
Thanks. I have looked at several benchmarks and reviews and most are just confusing.
mainly looking at this card due to the price.

Im gaming with a Galaxy 660Ti 3gb card slight overclock on my 2560x1440p monitor and i get between 50-60 fps with everything maxed out and no MSAA, you don't need it at my resolution. If your using it on a 1080p it is more than capable, hope that helps.

The 660 will do you just fine. Obviously, a 660ti is better and a 670 is better than that and a 680...

You can see how it escalates. I'd grab the 660. Its powerful, absurdly power efficient, quiet, and runs cool even on the reference cooler. thumb.gif

The 660TI is a powerful card for sure, definitely in my opinion a better buy at the time of purchase. I see alot more 670's go for alot less now than they were before the 660TI came to be. Now you can get a bargain on a 2GB 670 for the price of a 660 TI used of course but some come brand new. For my needs and Res, i would prefer 3GB or more of VRAM. I have seen some games at my res go over 2GB of VRAM. My next purchase will be the EVGA 660TI FTW 3GB, and pair it with my Galaxy 3GB.

the GTX 660 Ti is a much better card than GTX 660. it also has better price perf than GTX 660. GTX 660 is hit badly due to power target restrictions by Nvidia and also use of a single PCI-E 6 pin power connector. the gap between GTX 660 and GTX 660 Ti is close to 30% at max overclocks. Thats a linear performance improvement with increased price . that does not happen at all. GTX 680 is 10% faster than GTX 670. But costs 25% more.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/09/17/asus_geforce_gtx_660_ti_directcu_ii_top_review/5

1920 X 1080 Ultra 4X MSAA

GTX 660 (1152 Mhz) - avg 49.6
GTX 660 Ti (1382 Mhz) - avg 65.2

Even an average clocking GTX 660 Ti OC will be more than 20% faster than GTX 660 OC. Get the GTX 660 Ti. The MSI GTX 660 Ti Power edition is a very good card.

I have a used the 660 for a while now and honestly there is no down side to getting one, it is true that there are better options out there 660ti being one of them but when gaming at 1080p a 660 is more that enough.

if that your budget yes the gtx 660 is a beast. of course there will always be something better and better, but if your budget is a gtx 660 don't hesitate. it has the performance of a gtx 580 which was a $500 flagship card a year ago

Unless you make use of nvidia 3d, physx or cuda, nvidia just does not make sense to buy right now, as a whole. AMD's lineup is cheaper and more powerful, isn't locked to ONLY gaming (has good compute performance), overclocks higher, and has more memory and a wider bus to allow for both larger resolutions and future games with more on-screen assets.

THAT SAID, yeah, a 660 is a decent card for 1080 today and probably until the next set of consoles are released. It just doesn't really make much sense price-wise (aside from those 3 nvidia specific technologies, two of which actually work better on 500 series cards fyi).
