Finally bit the bullet and got my feet wet in WC =)

So as title states I finally bit the bullet and bought my first wc cooling products. I'm just buying piece by piece as that's all I can afford at the moment. Well so far picked up the ek supremacy copper cpu block and the swiftech mcp35x pump! Next order will probably be the final purchase to get the wc setup up and running thumb.gif So far I'm thinking of getting xspc 240 rad, still deciding on what fittings I want, tubing, pt nuke, drain port, and reservoir. How is that sounding so far? Am I missing anything? As for the reservoir I'm torn between the phobya 150 and the ek multi-option x2.

As far as setup goes I'm understanding that I should have my loop like this, res-pump-rad-cpu-res. Where res is going outlet to pump, then rad, then cpu, then back to res.

The one thing that really confuses me is where to put the drain plug and if I even need to have a line for fill port.

The only really important thing with loop order is that your res is before your pump so that your pump won't run without water. While filling it for the first time, make sure the res is above the pump. You can just fill your loop through the top of your res.
As for tubing and liquid, I would go with colored tubing, not dyes. Also, go with distilled water and a silver kill coil. very simple.

Welcome! I too waffled around a bit before I decided to bit the bullet and I'm glad I did! there was no black magic involved and no fountains of water spraying all over my PC!

For a drain port just go with the lowest point in your loop. For me that's as it comes out of the pump before it's bound upwards to the CPU block. For a fill port you just need a way to have something to pour water in to while you run your pump (on and off). I have the res that just screws into the top of my mcp35x which has multiple ports and plugs. I just used the side port as my return and threw a barb fitting into a length of hose with a funnel stuck into it that I screwed into the top port to fill with. When I was done filling I unscrewed the fitting, topped it up a bit and screwed the plug in.

It should also be noted that I am apparently very bad at filling and bleeding my loop because I have a million tiny bubbles... I have no idea how to get them out, they all go hide in my rad when I turn it off and there's no way to get them out, short of turning my computer upside down =(

**Edit**
For fittings I used Bitspower Premier barbs

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_346_393_1004&products_id=29024

and bitspower luxury reusable clamps

http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/bp-sltc7al-sl.html

I really liked that combo... You know in my vast experience of using only them in my single WC build lol...

How are you liking those hose clamps? I was thinking about getting some compression fittings but I just don't like the added bulkiness of it and rather have barbs and was considering those reusable snaps clamps or the bitspower one you posted.

I really like them! Granted I've never used compression fittings but I felt like these were high quality, esthetically pleasing, easy to use (you do need a hex head driver to tighten them) and, as a first time WCer, once I tightened them down I had no doubt that there was no water coming out of that junction.

im intrigued about water cooling as well. im leaning towards getting nzxt's new kraken closed loop setup, as i love their products and because its maintenance free. id love to do a custom loop, though expensive, the thing that worries me is the hassle of maintenance and draining if i need to remove a component etc. its sounds like a tedious process... but is it worth it?

Yes it is all worth it. I only have to empty my res and loop once a year (w/ killcoil). I have been stress testing for a while and from the closed loop solution I had (Corsair h70 Push/pull) I have seen a 15* C drop in my cpu temps at the same frequency and same TIM. I found a 25* C drop in temps from my big fan with push/pull. If you have the money to drop on one I would suggest it. Just starting to play with my new FX8320 but It will prob never touch the H70.

Most are affraid of leaks and such but if you are careful and use non-conductive liquids you don't have to worry.

Your feet got wet? This would indicate a leak, sir.

But seriously, awesome.

I second this, it can seem daunting at first but it's not like it's fluid thermodynamics or an... Oh wait...

Stick 2 compression fittings even if you have to save a little longer.

Compressions look way better overall plus those Bitspower luxury clamps aren't that great. I ordered 1 for my drain plug and even with 3/4 OD tubing it won't hold very tight and can slide off.

As far as a drain plug just have a feed coming off your bottom video card and tuck it some where and that will be your drain plug -
