Help With First Build?

Thread Starter
So, as the title states, I'm looking for help for a first build. I don't even know what my budget should really be. I make $8.50/hr, 12hrs/week, basically no bills or expenditures at the moment. I will, however, not being getting any of the pieces until after father's day (for a few reasons). [EDIT] Meaning I'll be at $0 at that time.

Criteria time:
First build so I'd like to be able to experiement with everything. Overclocking, modding, eventually WCooling. Everything.
I play games ALOT. Mostly LoL, but I do go up into the hemispheres of BF3 and other stressful games.
Right now, I'm looking at probably a 1155 Pentium based build, due to the cheapness.

If you can sway me and give me a description of why I should buy differently (by figuring out what my budget actually is) I will probably be swayed easily. Reps for the person with the most viable build.

Also, I just really like the looks of most of the NZXT cases and such. Really like the Guardian 921RB, but this is cheaper for still cool.

Current build as follows;

CPU: Intel Pentium G860 3.0GHz Dual-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock Z75 PRO3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Kingston SSDNow V200 Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card
Case: NZXT M59 - 001BK ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Professional 650W 80 PLUS Bronze ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer

Look at my build log, in sig, for hardware ideas. Go 3570k and a Gigabyte/asRock z77 mobo for starters. A Corsair H100i cooler, a good brand PSU and a Gigabyte 7950. Also go 8GB Corsair Vengeance or G. Skill Ripjaws X for RAM and get a Samsung 830 or 840 SSD.

Sorry, didn't use PCPP. One Sec.

[EDIT] Ok, so prices aren't nearly the same as they were like 2 weeks ago. I don't even know what my budget really is at this point. All I know is how much I make and how often. I'm guessing ~$500.

Here is a $500 build that I came up with ... I'm not a professional so this should just give you an idea.

A few points:
- I picked an AMD CPU since you want to experiment with overclocking.
- Gskill Ares, overclocking ram (And blue, to match the motherboard. wink.gif )
- I don't know if this is true but I have heard the 7xxx series from AMD overclock like beasts
- As for water cooling, I picked out the HAF 912 because it is pretty cheap and it has great bang for the buck.
It has lots of options for expansion and I believe you can mount an H100 on the top of the case.
I haven't experimented with many cases and I'm sure there are many options in the 60-70 dollar range.

Price reaches around $560 BUT, you can downgrade the video card and get the 7750 instead. smile.gif

Note that the 7770 is NOT better performing than the 660.
If you want the 660, please just get the XFX 7870, I believe you can get it on Newegg for 230$ with THREE free games. Same price as EVGA GTX 660 SC

I am kind of an NVidia fanboy. Is there an added bonus for going AMD x3 or is there an NVidia equivalent to the 7770? I am planning on OCing so keep that in mind.

I am kind of an NVidia fanboy. Is there an added bonus for going AMD x3 or is there an NVidia equivalent to the 7770? I am planning on OCing so keep that in mind.

The 7770 and the GTX 650 (non - Ti) are about the same price.

Keep in mind if you go with thepoopscooper's build, the Asrock 970 Extreme 3 has a 4+1 power phase and the Extreme 4 is the same.
The GA-970A-UD3 has an 8+2 power phase. Since you want to OC, I would get the gigabyte. I've also been told it has better VRMs.
However, that doesn't mean you can't OC with the Asrock.

Thepoopscooper's AMD build does not include a separate cooler. You'll need that. I suggest the Hyper 212 Plus.

For power supply, I think you should go with 500 watts because if you want to upgrade it will be plenty. Could be wrong though, 430 might be enough for higher end cards.

That's the only thing I'd change with thepoopscooper's build, but it will push your budget further.

So someguy543's build looks the best. Anybody got any other ideas?
