Help With First Build? - Page 2

heres about as good as i can come up with and still be above a quad core. and not have the most entry level video card in the world.
i know the total is over $600 however you mentioned that you would be interested in overclocking and the fx 6300 with that board and the corsair vengeance ram with the hyper 212 evo and arctic silver 5 will give you great overclocking potential. plus the specs on that sparkle power supply are very studly for the price point its at and id recommend it over a corsair psu myself. plus the zigmatek asgard case has 2 120mm case fans and you can add more at your lesure. i know it doesnt include an ssd but hey youll have a very quick system that can bring the game very well. i personally wouldnt trust hitachi hard drives at all...ive seen any number of them fail. even had one fail me.

Intel I3 3225 ( 119.99 @ Microcenter )
Asrock z77 pro3 ( 59.99 @ Microcenter after 40 Dollar CPU bundle savings )

Would recommend taking advantage of Microcenter's processor bundle deals if you live near one.

I5 3570k @ 169.99 with 40 bucks off your board.
I3 3225 @ 119.99 with 40 bucks off your board.

No MC nearby. Closest are Fry's (most likely used) and BestBuy. Newegg and Fry's are probably going to be my main retailers.

Should I just wait and see how Piledriver & Haswell will perform & cost?

piledriver chips are very good. there are benchies that show in performance for multitasking and such that the 8350 does keep up with the 3770k. you dont have to spend a bunch to get cutting edge. something you could consider to is if you save at least 2 parts out of your old computer you could reuse the windows key off the tower. so if you saved your 500gb hd and your dvd burner drive you could technically save your windows 7 home premium key off the hp case and download a windows 7 64 bit ISO off the internet and youve got your OS and a hard drive and optical drive which would save you money on the build and that would allow for a better graphics card or an ssd

I'll keep my eyes open. As for the other items, I can't actually use the other computer's parts (mom's taking it). Good thing is, I have a laptop I am trying to get an SSD for right now that has a 750Gb SATAIII drive that I would want to use (7200RPM by the way). As for the OS, I already have an installation disc and would just do the little 30-day-trial thing till I can get a key (there's retailers that sell just the key for ~$20)

So for people who are just jumping in, we can substitute a good 120+ GB SSD for the hard drive since I already have a notebook hdd that I am keeping.

remember, if your gonna use that notebook harddrive youll have to use a 2.5" drive caddy ala for an ssd to use it with a desktop as desktops are all set for the 3.5" drives.
