Custom build for a friend. Low budget, let's see what we can do!

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I already purchased the stuff for my custom rig that was built thanks to the amazing community here, but my friend was interested in a low-end custom-build as well. He only wants to spend about 600-800 dollars on this however, so we're looking for a good place to start off. Anyone mind starting us off with a decent case (he wants a clear one) and motherboard?

He already has a hard drive, so no need for one of those.

Well start with an asRock Extreme 4 and a 3570k.

If you say 600-800 i'm gonna do 800.

do you live near a micro center? if so, 800 can get you a top of the line machine. i can make a 7970 fit in there with what i can do thumb.gif
but the question before that is what does he want to do? what will it do? games primarily?

this is an unfinished build for a friend who bought his own components (he wasted some of his budget) but here's what i would've built for him for $800

No I don't live near a micro center. And yes, it'll be used for basic gaming. We don't expect top-of-the-line stuff, but we'd like to try and make it as good as possible of course biggrin.gif

Low budget? I wouldn't go for the 3570k, get a 2500k, same performance, cheaper. The money saved can be spent on a better GPU.

Never mind, didn't realize the prices were the same. lol

Just noticed you don't need HDD so throw that out, use money on more GPU power.

I'm unsure about that PSU, and that case could be lowered to suite his budget, something like a BitFenix Merc would be fine, and would be under budget.

Uh are you kidding Capstones are made by Superflower which in turn make great power supplies. rolleyes.gif

From AnandTech:
Quote:
Overall, we like the solutions Rosewill presented. The Capstone series is recommendable for all enthusiasts who want to get the highest efficiency. Minor flaws like the missing MOVs and the relatively cheap fan should be taken into account. After all the Capstone series gets our Silver Editors' Choice award for providing a very high efficiency.

Not to mention he said:
Quote:
Anyone mind starting us off with a decent case (he wants a clear one) and motherboard?

Which also means a case with a window, which the Bitfenix Merc you suggested does not have. thumb.gif
