Need Help with ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+??

Hello everyone,

Im still new to these forums and need some advice, I just ordered this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131876
I see that there is a 8 pin cpu power and a 4 pin cpu power. my question is , my power supply only has a 8 pin, will the motherboard
function with only the 8pin or must i use both. My cpu is a AMD 8150 and i have 16 Gig 1866 ram.

Please any response thanked.

IIRC,

The additional CPU power ports are simply to reduce the physical effects of high electrical load on power delivery components.
The merits of this are, theoretically, always useful, but may only carry meaning in an enthusiast or professional-level overclocking environment.

The board, despite the fact that it supports 12-pin power, should still be able to power CPU's of any reasonable TDP from just a 4-pin power connector. You've got an 8-pin which is more than sufficient.

For more in depth information, take a look at the third post of this thread.

This is 100% correct. I use this board myself (with both connectors attached for extra cable pairs and less voltage sag on the +12), but honestly it is not a requirement. Even the manual states that you can use this board with the 8 pin OR the 4 pin. Using both is only really a "requirement" if you are going for an insanely high overclock on subzero cooling. thumb.gif

I also have a ASUS crosshair v formula z motherboard that will go into my new build. What power supply do you recommend for this board?
