2560x1440 and now stuttering

Thread Starter
Bought a new Samsung 27" 9 series monitor and she's a beaut, but when I switch to the 2560x1440 resolution, I noticed the mouse would frequently freeze for a fraction of a second then reappear where it should have been if it kept moving. I played some music and realized the whole system was "stuttering" if that makes any sense. It occurs randomly but I'd guess on average it happens every 4-5 seconds or so. I installed the newest video card drivers and still no bueno. Everything works perfectly fine though when I switch back to 1920x1080 which makes me think it might be some kind of resource issue. If anybody could shed some light on the problem, I'd be very appreciative. Cheers!

Windows 7 64 bit
Asus P8Z68v-pro mobo
i7-2600k
16 gig ram 1600
Intel SSD
EVGA GTX 580 superclocked 1.5gb
Currently nothing is overclocked

Since the stutter happens in 2D mode, I geuss the system is running off the iGPU.
Try disabling it in Bios and check....

P.S.: Welcome to OCN smile.gif. To get your rig in your sig:

Thanks for the reply. I disabled the iGPU and disabled Render Standby seperately then together, making sure PCIE/PCI was selected but its still happening. The monitor is plugged directly into the GPU so I don't think that the iGPU is being used at all...true?

Still been trying to troubleshoot this issue with no success....anybody out there with some idears? After getting a taste of the higher resolution I really don't want to go back to 1080. Thanks!

have you made adjustments using the monitor's settings? the monitor itself.

What PSU?
Do you use any software to monitor system temps and cpu/gpu usages...for example Aid64?

RDR09, I've made OSD adjustments to color/picture but I think it's got more to do with the computer than the monitor itself. I could be wrong though...I am a lot. What kind of adjustments are you referring to?

superj1977, I'm using an Antec 900w PSU. I have the ASUS AI suite to monitor temps/performance and EVGA precision to monitor the GPU.

Just out of interest have you tried to temporarily shut down ASUS AI and EVGA precision and see if the problem persists? wink.gif

This is a really strange issue, I've never heard of anything like it lol.

I guess you'll just have to try some random "stirring the stick".

-Can you plug into another port on your GPU?

-Try putting the GPU into another PCI-E slot

-try some sort of resource monitoring program and see if it shows anything funny

-live linux CD.... see if it works fine in linux.
