2560x1440 and now stuttering - Page 2

superj1977, I have not thought of doing that but I will give it a shot.

rjajmr, the DVI cable is brand new and everything works fine in 1080, only when I go up to 1440 does it start stuttering. I would try DP but my card doesn't have a DP slot. And would a bad cable cause the whole system to hang up?

rdr09, will browse that thread...133 pages so that may take a while, haha.

Otherwise I guess I'll just keep troubleshooting, "stirring the stick" like Crazy9000 said. Thanks for the suggestions folks. Cheers!

Well, I finally said screw it and I reformatted my hard drive and did a clean install of windows and video card drivers only. Problem is still there. I've also noticed that when in 2560x1440 my internet is extremely slow/pretty much unusable. In order to verify, I went to speedtest.net and got .19mb/s while in 2560x1440 (yes, there's a decimal in front of the 19), but without changing anything and switching to 1080 resolution, the download speed went right back up to 20 mb/s....switch back to the higher resolution and got .18 mb/s again. Upload speed wasn't affected.....this is unreal and confusing as hell. angrysmiley.gif

Also, I did a bunch more googling and found one other person with a mac who had internet slowdown while using high resolution with a 27" dell, but nobody had any answers for him either.

Man ... that is one weird problem.

I recently moved to 1440p as well and with almost the same system as you ... a GTX 580 1.5GB, anyway ... and things were just fine (since upgraded to a 4GB 670, just because) ...

My first tests would be to put in a new video card and try that.

Second, if you can run off of iGPU and if it's known to support 1440p, then take your 580 out and try just iGPU.

Thirdly, I would try different RAM.

I would personally lean towards thinking it was GPU specific, something to do with your 580 card but no way to find that out without sticking in a different card.

But strange problem for sure. I feel your pain. That's the kind of issue that makes me lose sleep.

Good luck...

Have you tried a linux distro? That couldl tell you if it's hardware or software, since the OS and drivers are fairly different. With a live CD you won't have to install anything.

Great success! I had bought another GTX 580 to run in SLI, got it in today so I just replaced my old one with the new (used) one and now everything works perfectly. Not sure if there is a hardware issue or if it was the fact that my old one was was factory OC'd (Superclocked version) and it was causing some glitch while running 1440p. Thanks for the help everyone! thumb.gif

It must have been an issue with that card somehow... glad to see it works now.
