Serious Motherboard Fail Help Needed

Hello Everyone,

I don't post too much on here but love reading everyone's adventures. I now need some help for the great brains out there.

I have the following problem.

Upon power up my system gives the standard single beep then 10 seconds later I receive another beep. There is no onscreen post from any of the cards.

Now this lead me on the adventure of beep codes. All my research directs this to be video card failure but I have tested 3 video cards two of which recently came out of other systems. IIt is possible the PCI-E x16 slot has failed but I would suspect a different start up code.

Notes: previous to this I had been having issues with games or even windows crashing with what appeared to be gfx card related issues. No blue screen just massive green and red patterns. I was attempting to solve these issues with driver changes.

Here is my build

CPU: Q9650 3.0Ghz
Motherboard: P5Q
Graphics: BFG GTX 280 1Gig
RAM: OCZ 8GB PC2-8500 Reaper HPC
Power: Corsair CMPSU-1000HX
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

Please no one say the solution is to upgrade my system or tell me how old it is. If it does turn out to be the MOBO I'll be looking for someone with a 775 board available for purchase or trade. It's not ideal but its the best that I can afford at the moment been focused on other life issues.

Please don't hesitate to ask for clarification. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks thumb.gif

Hi, sorry you ran into trouble. If you are fairly certain that those others cards are functional then I would say you took the right first step. The next thing I would do is reset the bios with the reset jumper. Then try again. It is possible for the PCIe 16x slot to fail. If it failed I would expect it to give you the same error you received. The reason being is that I don't think the bios could actually tell that the slot has failed but instead just tell there is no video.

Please try resetting the bios and let us know what happens.

Worse case scenario you buy another motherboard. You could probably buy a baller motherboard for that chip for a very affordable price.

Hello,

Thank you for your quick reply. I have done a full CMOS reset using both the jumper and battery options available. The chip is just so nice and the build is great for 90% of everything I do with it i cant justify the cost of a whole new build.

I haven't had any luck tracking down a 775 board that is a reasonable ability and cost. it seems all enthusiast boards are no longer sold I am hoping that maybe someone will sell me there old one.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dustin

Does your motherboard have onboard video? If it does, try it out without the dedicated GPU installed and if it loads to Windows you know what your problem is. I am under the impression your motherboard doesn't have onboard though. Are you certain each of those cards are compatible with your motherboard? I am out of ideas otherwise minus the slot being dead which you've already mentioned.

If you do end up buying a new motherboard be sure to check out the OCN marketplace. I've had a good bit of luck there.

Unfortunately the P5Q does not have on board video. I have looked at the market place there is noting 775. I have had great difficulty tracking to track down a 775 board.

Also the market place rules state I cannot post there with my current Rep to ask for a board./

Thanks for your input

No, you cant, but you can buy or reply to a thread. Keep that in mind at least. Sorry I can't help you further.
