AM3+ or FM2?

I have decided to retired my LGA 2011 system and downgrade and I cannot decide whether or not to go w/ a FM2 (A75) build w/ the A10 5800K or a AM3+ FX 6300 system. The main thing holding me back is the future. I know FM2 is planned to stay for a long time (3 years) I have also heard AM3+ is supposed to be around for a long time (2 years) My concern is with which platform will support PCI-E 3.0 in the future and which platform will be overall faster. Another question I have is which will handle games better? The FX 6300 or the A10-5800K? I'd like to be able to keep the chip and simply upgrade my motherboard when AMD integrates PCI-E 3.0 into their chipsets.

Any suggestions? LGA 1155 is out of question as I will not invest into a dying socket.

What about HSA???


I am selling my X79 FTW + Core i7 3820 for $410 SHIPPED.

AM3+ is way better for gaming but you have to buy a graphics card whereas if you go with FM2 you can use the onboard graphics. the 6300 also overclocks significantly better which is important to take into consideration if your goal is to maximize future proofness (trust me, its a word)

I have a 7870 that i'd use. My main issue with AM3+ is the lack of USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s integration into the chipsets. I'm also concerned with HSA making the APU's a better alternative. Oh - and PCI-E 3.0 integration in the future.

why are you so quick to jump on the AMD band wagon? You are going to loose a lot of performance especially if you give up sata 3.

Both AM3+ and FM2 has Sata 6gb/s and USB 3.0, but for PCI-E 3.0 there is no rush for it now. There is no difference in perfromance right on PCI-e 2.0 vs. PCI-e 3.0 on the high end cards, so why worry about it. There is no video card that can max out a PCI-e 2.0 slot x 16 at this point in time.

Just out of curiosity, Why would you go from an i7 to either of those?

Also, my recommendation would be AM3+.
FM2 is a great chipset, and im really impressed with my A8-5600k, but I think AM3+ offers better power, and more expandability than FM2.

Price and longevity as well as maxing the cash I get back. I won't consider LGA 1155 because it's a dying socket - 5 months from now it will be replaced by LGA 1150. I can get about $440 total after selling my motherboard, processor and Corsair H60. An A10 + Motherboard Combo = $180. A FX 6300 + Motherboard combo = $204.

The only reason I went the X79 route was because I could get an i7 + motherboard for cheaper than a Z77 + i7 and I knew LGA 2011 would have a longer life. The problem is I now have a $1000 computer sitting at my house without a case getting seldom use. I don't utilize the 4 Cores/8 Threads at ALL and I only play 1 demanding game - Battlefield 3.

if you are gonna use 7870 then am3+ is better.
FM2 is anyways not targeted at people like you who are gonna use hi end discrete graphics. you should know that

The new FX chip are now up it Phenom II level on core vs. core and the new FX chip can oc higher then the thuban or deneb chip. So why would he or she buy a thuban or deneb chip now?
