UPDATE: I ordered the monitor, SSD, and GPU so now I'm just waiting for them to arrive.

I started ordering the parts for my first desktop ever (only have laptops) about a week ago. I've gotten a few in, still waiting on some to arrive, and still haven't ordered a couple.

This is what I have so far,
CPU: i5 3570k
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77 V Pro
Case: Carbide 500r
PSU: SeaSonic X750w Gold
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw X 1600 CL8 Blue 2x4GB
Keyboard: Ducky Shine II White/Brown
Mouse: Razer DeathAdder

That's all I have right now so I still need,
Monitor: ASUS PB238Q 23" 1920x1080 IPS (ordered)
SSD: Samsung 830 256GB (ordered)
GPU: EVGA GTX 670 FTW 2GB (ordered)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
OS: Win7 or Win8?

Hopefully I can snag one of the Corsair H100i's whenever they come back in stock, if not I'll probably just install the stock intel heatsink until I can get one. Any opinion on which OS I should get? I am going to try to get Win7 from my college for free but I might not be able to.

nice build man, have the h100 p/p with typhoons 1850 and keeps me super cool at 4.6ghz, h100i looks to be even better. 3570k is a great gaming chip, pretty good folding too. personally run win7, but i hear if you run any of these windows 8 t 7 look can boot into desktop with win8 gains. nice build biggrin.gif

I need to research about all that push/pull stuff. Does that mean put fans on both sides of the radiator so that air is getting pushed and pulled through it? Right now I plan to put the H100i with stock fans in the top of my 500r and have them pull air in I guess. Would it be bad to have 1 exhaust fan and 4 120mm + 1 200mm intake fans? What about 4 120mm intakes and 1 200mm exhaust and 1 120mm exhaust?

It's my experience that running fans in push/pull does not make a difference for radiator temps. My experience comes from water cooling 2 systems, my own and a friends I built for him. If you have extra fans its worth a shot and seeing if you get any temp difference, often times people do it for aesthetics. The other think you could consider is purchasing fans that are made for radiators, like Noctua nf-f12's or Corsair has some new SP120's which are very affordable (I opted for these in my friends build, and have Noctua's in my personal).

I think you'll be pleased with the 670FTW, I have one myself and it plays anything I throw at it completely maxed out graphics, with little to no sweat at all. It's a good alternative to the 680's and 7970's especially for the price difference.

Push refers to the fan blowing into the heatsink or radiator, and pull refers to the fan pulling air out. It really only makes a difference in large air heatsinks, because they have openings in the fins for the air to escape from the sides. Push/pull makes a nice linear stream of air across the fins. With a radiator, there isn't anywhere for the air to go but out the back, so the pull isn't really needed.

Ordered the Corsair H100i this morning off Newegg. I now have everything on the way to my condo except an OS but I'm still going to try and get that for free from my college. I'm retarded excited about my new desktop... I've always been a closet nerd so this is pretty badass to me. Most powerful computer I've ever owned is this MBP and I've never had a desktop of my own. Will post more pics whenever more parts arrive.

Built it last night! I got home from college around 1AM for Thanksgiving break and started building. Finished around 6AM haha. Everything went smooth. Posting from it right now biggrin.gif

Stock Idle temps are 20-25 C.

Downloading some games as we speak though biggrin.gif

Does anyone have a CPU core usage monitor that they would recommend? Right now I'm using Task Manager.
