Heh, and speaking as a former Marine...the Air Force is the best. Man, most of the Air Force people I bumped into had more freedom than I do now as civilian. It was like they were not even in the military...more like high school.

We are a little more relaxed in some aspects but the Air Force is quickly tightening up our appearance. We've started by eliminating many of the undesirables and the ones that can't maintain standards.

As a military member you CANNOT do whatever the hell you want, there are standards of behaviour that applies even when you're out of uniform (and on active duty) -- The SEAL members that shared classified info violated the UCMJ and if you violate the UCMJ (uniform code of military justice), you WILL pay the price.
I don't believe civvies will ever understand this. You can't break the rules in the military unless you want to see the man and lose rank / money. Losing rank when you're well into your career will break your ability to retire or even stay in. You can vilify the brass all you want -- but the SEAL members violated the UCMJ period. The UCMJ is black and white and has existed for a long time - you cannot ever, under any circumstance, share classified information.
This isn't the civilian world where you can BS your way out of breaking the rules. You break the rules and get caught while under military contract, you will get NJP'ed or court martialed for a serious offense. If any of these happen to you, it can destroy your life if severe enough, so obviously military members usually try to avoid being in the wrong -- military justice is harsh. Don't like it? They shouldn't have joined - they knew they were in the wrong by sharing this info, I am certain of this. All military members have a good understanding of what they can and cannot do, there are not many shades of gray here.

Being ex British military, I agree one hundred percent. Well said.

It puts lives at risks when you disclose information that shouldn't be open to the general public. Never underestimate what the enemy can garner from even what one would deem the most harmless thing.

The main thing about the air force is that their standard of living military wise is better than practically every other branch. My perspective is slightly skewed since I was an outsider looking in, but while doing 2 deployments to Afghanistan I was just in disbelief at how good they have it at places like Bagram air base or Manas air base. Of course grunts on the ground will always have it the worst, but its whatever really....some people take pride in toughing it out, and would rather have not have things the easy way. A lot of us were in some pretty unbelievable living conditions but I wouldn't take it back for anything - I think I came out a better man after doing my thing and getting out.

With all that said, I appreciate everyone doing their part regardless of which branch they were in. There's always a little ribbing between branches, but I know the air force guys have to do their 14-15 hour work days over there so they're doing their fair share. Can't hate on that. They're working hard just like everyone else, just in different ways.

I think I may have to check this title out now after reading about this.

No one ever complains when they drop the bombs or get your butt out of the gutter. :)

I was an OP in the Artillery and did a lot of work with FAC's etc as a signaller. Good times.

True that tongue.gif I'm not talking bad about the air force, hopefully it didn't come across like that.

How are the accurate and in-depth books different from consulting on a video game? There's no uproar over this book right?

Yes but they clearance to write these books, they write what ever content they want and then they take it to a higher officer for review. I know a couple seals, my uncle jim was in the book jawbreaker, and everything they say has to be cleared.

I really have a hard time believing that that the members of the team divulged this information. To my knowledge all of them were senior seal members that have been in the industry for quite a while.
