For what it's worth I hd tune benchmarked my samsung f3 1tb (i think its ~2 years old) and the WD 2tb red i bought almost 2 weeks ago.

For a 5400 rpm drive to equal a 7200 rpm drive in benchmarks imo is a big success.

Reds use dense 1TB platters. That's why they score so much better than most 5400RPM/Green drives. They don't have the stutter-inducing head parking that Green drives do, so they're quite acceptable for gaming.
