People really need to stop confusing the DA and the Naga. Totally different beasts.

Incorrect.

Without activating the Naga 12 online, you cannot adjust the DPI.

Granted it has an offline mode, but that is not the point. You first have to go online, in order to convert to offline mode.

This whole scenario would be perfectly acceptable if the cloud was simply used to store profiles, but what logical reason is there to force activation in order to change the DPI of an $80 mouse? That is the very definition of DRM.

The CEO even said:
Quote:
Synapse 2.0 is “not DRM”, says Tan. He draws a distinction between DRM, which punishes the user by taking functionality away, and his software, which provides “ADDITIONAL functionality of almost limitless memory in the cloud”.

The mouse does not do its basic task of changing DPI without online activation. Hence it is taking functionality away, therefore it is indeed DRM. How he can lie about that and think he can get away with it baffles me.

Yes a DA and a naga are 2 different items here. But we are talking about the fact that they both use a drm activation program to use any features from it are the same.

I personally bought a naga for mmos. But disliked the fact that the software was needing to connect to the internet every single time. And put something like 70mb file running at decent power. Especially at start up this program would actually bog my pc down for 15 seconds before moving on to the next file it needed to load.

I for one have uninstalled razors crappy program and running it stock till they completely remove the DRM from the programs and give the option of do I want to use cloud or not, with out having to activate it.

My bad I didn't think about the macros etc, just being able to use the mouse generally. Will edit my post

Actually I wanted to agree to some things with you tongue.gif. I have a R.A.T. and It's quality is a bit poor but it does have some unique things that other mice don't that is why I like it.

It's ok, it's an easy thing to miss understand to be honest. The article isn't exactly clear in representing the issue.

Most people (in fact I would be bold enough to say) everyone who uses the Naga 12 would be fine if the online activation was only required in order to use the cloud storage. After all, you need a unique identifier to access your segment of the cloud.

However, every single mouse I have owned does DPI changing on the fly, granted I have to install some software if I want to edit the macro functions of the mouse, just like all over mice. However DPI seems to be inherent within all mice I have owned.

The OP of the original thread tried to use his Naga 12 during a time when the servers were down. This meant he couldn't even change the DPI of his mouse even if he was willing to activate the DRM.

His $80 mouse was completely useless because he couldn't communicate with their servers. What happens if his ISP goes down in the future and he wipes his PC? His mouse would be useless. What happens when the bills get too much and he has to cut his internet off to save money, which is OK because he likes playing offline anyway...his mouse is useless if he ever decides to wipe his PC.

This is not acceptable for a mouse in my opinion.

That's fair. I'll agree it has some nifty features, even if they are mostly marketing gimmicks (barrows friend's firefighting suit).

Wasn't trying to accuse you of flamebaiting btw, I just know that if I start listing reasons here, someone will crawl out of the woodwork and start making a fuss.

Does no mouse save settings to the actual mouse anymore? I would only need the drivers for using mapped hotkeys, DPI and everything else will be the same.
