This. The Apple bashing gets tiresome tbh. No, you (not you L_Dawg, talking to others) are not cool bashing Apple. Yes, you have the same superiority complex, if not greater, than the Apple fanbois. One's got to in the 'in crowd' right though (as opposed to forming your own non-bias as possible educated opinion about the matter)?

According to official figures, Apple has over $400 billion in the bank.

2.5 million of 400 billion its the equivalent of, get ready for this, .000625% (thats percent not the actual fraction) of the money they hold in the bank. Now if you take me, as an individual, to donate .000625% of my total bank accounts (savings and checking) it would be a little more than 11 cents. It's the equivalent of me donating 11 cents. I actually donated quite a bit more than that. I didn't go out and release a statement or anything of that matter. I quietly donated and kept my mouth shut. If apple donated as much of a percentage of their holdings as I donated of mine they would have had to donate 22 billion dollars.

So please, forgive me, as a middle class American if I am unimpressed by Apple's eleven cent gesture.

Horrible logic there...

I don't believe they donated their money, more like their workers donated and/or itunes button.
I agree with you about that official e-mail tho

Most corporations (that donated) that have $10 billion+ donated less than 0.1% of the money in their bank. Why should some get praise, and some not? By "some not" I specifically mean Apple, because they are the only ones not getting praise. The NFL donated $1 million, yet are worth just over $9 billion. That's 0.01% and they were getting praised for it. I currently have £126.37 in my bank, will I get the same praise as the NFL if I donate £0.01?

So you're saying all the people defending Apple have horrible logic, yet speculating it's not their money isn't? If you don't want to believe Apple donated their own money, that's fine. Just don't say it as if it's fact, unless you have evidence to suggest otherwise.

and the companies that donated nothing....

Honestly......
That's a pretty low amount to donate for such a big company but at least they donated something smile.gif

I would have expected something along the lines of 25 million dollars but then again it's not Apple's job to provide organizations with money every time something bad happens. They didn't have to do this you know.

I mean, imagine if they donated 100 million dollars to the Red Cross for Sandy, great. But what if there's another disaster, even worse ? They'll be morally forced to donate an equivalent amount ? Or more ? What if that disaster did not take place in the US but rather... in Malaysia or Taiwan or Spain ? Then don't donate anything ? Now, that would be really cruel.

In other words, I understand why they can't lash out a massive amount of money.

Either way, I'm glad they donated smile.gif

Also, please stop these assumptions that the donated money came from the iTunes action or money "ripped" off from customers. A) We don't know if that's true and B) It's business, companies make profit.

Before my head gets chopped off : I'm not an Apple fan boy, I'm no-ones fan boy. That makes it easy to comment on these things biggrin.gif

What I would say to you is: Read and understand posts before you quote them.

I did read it and I understood it perfectly, you're saying Apple took the money from the donations from that button they opened last week and are saying it's their own money.

You'll find I have less nice things to say about the NFL. However, most of these corps arent publicizing their donations like apple does. Also, this thread isn't about the NFL its about Apple.

Only 1 sentence there is about the NFL and it was an example rolleyes.gif

No, other corporations are publicizing their donations like Apple are and they're doing it for the same reason.
