Nvidia posts solid Q3 results, says future of cheap PCs is tablets By Jose Vilches - SOURCE

Quote:
Nvidia posted solid financial results for its fiscal third quarter ended October 28, helped by the growing demand for Tegra chips in smartphones and tablets as well as a successful rollout of its Kepler-based graphics lineup for PCs. Net income during the period rose to $209.1 million, up from $178.3 million a year earlier, on record revenue of $1.2 billion. That represents a 12.9% jump in revenue over last year and a 15.3% jump over the last quarter.

They're doing something right. smile.gif

From article: "great tablet is better than a cheap PC,”

I would have to strongly disagree. For 500 dollars any legit member of OCN could put together a reasonable pc, which would destroy any tablet.

Otherwise, good to see that they are doing well.

Chip makers are, IMO, the biggest potential profit makes for mobile devices. The market is already oversaturating, and the iPad mini goes to show this. As new devices come out, people have less of a need to upgrade over the previous generation.

All of these devices need chips, though.

Oh I agree. $500 could get a pretty nice everyday use computer, especially if you already have a display. Granted, you can't put it in your pocket, but that's a given. To think that any tablet is better than a PC for anything other that reason.....kookoo.gif

I was actually able to (test) build a computer with everything including a SSD for $350. It out performed anything that Dell was selling $1000 for. I was using newegg, which means I was easily paying +70% mark up of cost of the components. Computers are not expensive to create.

And just think, computer manufacturers most likely aren't paying retail price for components.

AMD has to be kicking themselves over selling the rights to snapdragon. Worst business decision ever. Excellent quarter for nvidia though!
