I dont get CPU Speeds

How can a athlon 3800+ at 2.4 be running faster at stock that a 4400 X2 which runs at 2.2 at stock???

I know the x2 has dual core but is it really that much faster?

A 3800+ is a single core and runs at 2.4GHz.
An X2 4400 is 2x 3700+, stuck together on the same die, therefore a dual core processor. Each core runs at 2.2GHz (NOT 4.4GHz altogether).

So, it's not FASTER as such, but you can run more programs at the same time smoothly. (Newly-released and future software can take advantage of dual-core processors, effectively spreading the workload across both processors, 'speeding up' the processing by a substantial amount.)

A dual core is like having two separate 2.2GHz CPUs instead of just one 2.4GHz, it'd be like having 2 450HP Porsches over a single 500HP Viper, sure the Viper is a bit more powerful but if you had TWO Porsches, they could go and do two separate things at once get my point?

And yeah, I know a 450HP Porsche (like a 996 Twin Turbo) would cost a hell of a lot more than a Viper lol.

Each will be faster at programs that are taylored to take advantage of each chips' strengths. Single threaded programs will run faster on the 3800+ because the single threaded program doesn't even recognize the second core of the X2, so the faster clock speed of the 3800+ wins here. Multi-threaded programs will run faster on the X2 because the multi-threaded program will make use of the second core and will split up the work onto the two cores whereas one the 3800+, it will have to wait for the resources to be available. So it really depends on what kind of software you are running on the kind of processor you are running. However, since the push is for multi-threaded software, expect dual/multi-core to be the new standard, especially since Vista is supposed be written with multi-threading in mind.

Quake 4 has support for dual core, just to mention one game of the top of my head

2 Corvettes and a viper.

I think what they are trying to say is it can do more work in the same ammount of time or less than the single core.
