Need help, lag in BF3 - Page 2

What it shows is that BF3/MOHWF are not as CPU bound as ppl make out - and that if the OP is having lag problems, then he can rule out his CPU being the problem wink.gif

What the OP really needs to do is check the various things that can cause lag - here are a few things to check:
  • internet latency
  • low fps
  • low memory
  • slow monitor
  • using vsync

turn off blur motion, turn down some of the shadows and ground textures. set AA to x4. And maybe find something like MSI afterburner to OC the GPU a tad. The chip should be fine at 4.2. its most likely you cant run ultra on bf3 till you find the bottleneck in the system.

BF3 on single player is not CPU bound whatsoever, but when it comes to multiplier it definitely is especially on the bigger maps with a lot of players, and I'm sure a lot of people would agree there. Otherwise we could all just run Athlon X2's and a 7970 and play BF3 multi all day with no issues.

Your gpu is more then capable of playing BF3 on ultra, that is not the problem. If anything it would be your cpu choking, because high pop CQ maps are VERY cpu intensive.

iinversion you should stop with the AMD bashing.
The benchmark is properly chosen and shows how a very expensive CPU from Intel , a hexa core ,the i7 3960X ,is weaker than the AMD flagship which costs 200 dollars. ,in a brand new game.

The FX 4170 is known to be a good CPU for gaming from various benchmarks across web ,that s were he got the information.Best gaming CPU for the money.

I ve forgot to add that the motherboard might be throttling the CPU when the turbo core should kick in for example,
Make sure you are using latest BIOS with the motherboard .I ve caught my gigabyte 970-UD3 doing the same to my 4100 FX
There are many AM3 + motherboards that do not properly work with FX CPU-s for reasons that only the manufacturers know smile.gif.

Also for Ultra you need 2 Gigs of VRAM on the video card.

At 1920 X 1080 more than 2 X AA and 4X AF is almost useless visual wise ,not to say the game has the high contrast thing smile.gif

I have not bashed AMD in anyway. I have made 2 responses before this one, both of which made no negative comments regarding AMD.. just because I am not feeding the OP false information does not mean I am bashing AMD. You are bringing the 8320 and the i7-3960X into this thread which are both irrelevant to the OP's issue. The benchmarks are from SP, it even says so in the article so you can't even compare.

The SB Pentium chip than can be had for like $75 new is only 4 FPS shy of your almighty 8350. The Athlon X2 isn't far behind either and that chip is very old. You are comparing 3 fps difference to the 8350 and the i7-3960X , then the huge price gap.. Okay? What about that Sandy Bridge G860. It costs $75 new, $125 cheaper than the 8350 and only gets 4 FPS less. Clearly that must be the logical choice right? So why is that not the "Best gaming CPU for the money"? huh?

Stop being an AMD fanboy, god.

:facepalm.jpg:

The OP already said his temps were in check so nothing should be throttling. The likely scenario is the CPU is bottlenecking on multi-player because BF3 multi-player(not single player) IS CPU intensive, whether you choose to believe it or not.

You should do some CPU logging like with task manager. Just leave it open and click the performance tab and put the update speed high/low whatever and play and when you get the low FPS, check the CPU usage look for drops/maxing etc. Sucks if this is the CPU's fault. Ill try ultra sometime myself and see how it is.
here is my setup
Phenom II X4 @ 3.8ghz with 6mb L3
GTX 560 (not ti) at 900mhz
everything else is worthless.

I delivered the link to the guy saying AMD is not good for gaming and that this is the main reason he has lag.We can see pretty well it s good enough without spending huge amounts of money. That review is new and comes from a reputable intelist website. On the same page you see the FX 4170 on par with the others in Frostbyte 2 engine

I will not stop being and AMD fanboy this is what i usually buy.Brands have fans in all aspects starting from beer and finishing with cars ,i see no problem what so ever..

While the guy has issues some people started delivering the idea that product X is not working because it is not as good as the product Y ,this while in here we have a simple PC issue ,something not working right .This instead of the usual troubleshooting help like checking temperatures ,monitoring voltages frequencies and so on. You can have lag with an Intel CPU as well omg.
