Worth upgrading APU?

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I own the A8-3850k APU and was wondering if is worth upgrading to the new A10-5800k APU? I would of course need to purchase a motherboard but I have my eyes on the ASRock FM2A85X Extreme6 FM2 AMD A85X.

Main game we play is Guild Wars 2.

Ehh I dont think there will be too much difference, you should get a 6670 to hybrid xfire with IMO.

Llano was good, but Trinity is better.
If the 3850k handles everything for you well enough, then I wouldnt spend money on a 5800k.
For a new build, not going with trinity is silly.
But you already have a decent little chip. Save your pennies.

Ic, I guess getting my hands on a nice 6670 would be wise then. What would be a nice 6670 to grab?

by the way only reason i was looking into that is because I am running the GW2 on auto detect best graphic and I believe is running it on low settings to some medium settings. Once i increase the graphics things looks better, but FPS drop to 19ish. Sucks, so trying to improve that for the wife. Or maybe maybe grabbing a higher end video card might help but then again i am worried about bottlenecking the cpu. Also she currently run dual 19" LCD on this system. Most 6670 DDR5 only come with 1GB. I was told I should be grabbing a DDR3 2GB minimum video card but not sure if that is correct or not. Any tip is appreciated.

Also I found this video card here might work out for me. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102950

Thats a fairly solid card.
Even Trinity is still pretty badly bottlenecked. The difference between the 5600k and the 5800k is substantially smaller than the extra GPU cores on the 5800k would have you think it would be. If im not mistaken its only a few fps in most places.
Your best bet is to get a dedicated card and run CFX.
Save some money that way. thumb.gif

Has anyone tested a GDDR5 card in CFX with a APU? Since the APU only uses system memory, you might be capped to DDR3 speeds in CFX. So it might be better to save $20 and get a DDR3 model, not sure tho as this subject hasn't had much light shed on it.

Someone mention that to me before and I tried to get that answer from AMD Tech but he was not clear about it. Anyways I picked up a HD6670 2GB DDR3 card since it was a great deal. I have it crossfire setup. DDR3 1600Mhz Ram set to 1866. CPU Speed still stock and it only has the stock fan. Do you guys think I should OC it just to 3.0Ghz to give it a little bit of a kick? Mobo I have is an Gigabyte GA-A75M-D2H with EasyTune 6 installed. Say Level 1 OC is to 3.05GHz. Maybe I can run the AMD Vision Engine Control Center Performance part and OverDrive the CPU to find the best OC spot? Just worried not having a aftermarket cooler will cause issues.
